How long for private PCR results

Hi all. We're meant to be flying to Italy on 14-18th Dec. With the new rules we have to do a PCR test in return. Worried we're going to be isolating for Xmas if the results haven't come back! Does anyone know how long the private pcr tests take to come back? Can you get it done at the airport? We're flying from east Midlands. Thanks.

Some places do 1 hr results, others are 24+ Hours

There are literally hundreds of providers now, your best bet is to Google walk in options near you, as postal ones will obviously take longer

Coviddy · 27/11/2021 19:37

There are loads of providers and they price based on how quickly you want the results

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 19:37

Is it quicker if you pay? Do they use different labs to the NHS ones?

My parents visited from abroad last week, day 2 pcr tests with Randox took just little over 24h from taking the sample, they did the test in the morning on day 2, we dropped tests into a dropbox, Randox collected by 4.30pm same day and I got results next morning at 9am.

goldfluffyclouds · 27/11/2021 19:51

you can get within the hour if you pay...
mine were same day - so test in morning results in the evening
there are lots of providers out there and the service/prices are very different - so just grab a cuppa, notepad and get googling for your area..

Good to know thank!

I had a pcr last week at a local place (i had a cough/cold and pregnant so more to be on the safe side), i am in the South West.

Test done 9.30am on Monday morning and had results by 9.05am on Wednesday morning.

Not the OP but does anyone know a good private clinic in London? Flying into Gatwick and they only seem to do drive thru tests and I don't have a car.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 27/11/2021 20:42

Thanks everyone for the advice

By ‘good’, do you mean ‘quick’? There are loads of 1hr test places, lots of them in or near train stations

Randox have got several

dabbydeedoo · 27/11/2021 21:55

@SW1amp yes, quick and reliable. I've seen Randox do some central locations which would work for me, but the earliest they promise is 11.59pm next day. This is OK but quicker would be better. Do you know any that do a turnaround of a few hours?

Randox Waterloo does a pcr with a guaranteed result in 1-3hrs for £80
DH did one last week and the result was back in under an hour

@SW1amp thank you! Absolutely on the fence right now about whether to go or to postpone to next year...need to decide in the next hour!

Just seen Switzerland have put us on the risk list, so 10 day quarantine + negative test to enter...if other countries follow suit tomorrow or Monday, I'll lose my flights and hotel costs.
