Lateral Flow Testing - still doing it?

SoSoTiredToday · 25/11/2021 21:15

We are meant to LFT twice weekly at work and record details on computer programme each time. I can't take it anymore. It's so uncomfortable in the nose, makes me sneeze, eyes water. I have so much going on in my life etc.. I keep forgetting. I don't have time to keep waiting 30 mins for the results and faffing round with all the bits and bobs. I really hate it all.

I know IABU because I work in healthcare and it's important to protect clients and colleagues.

But - I've had covid, and have had all 3 vaccines so I am perhaps a little protected.

Am I really bad to give up and stop testing? (Yes, I think I am)

Are you someone that has honestly been doing your LFT twice weekly without fail? What keeps you going?

Do you think most people are doing these?

Are you me? Exact same situation as you! I'm so past doing LFTs now

SoSoTiredToday · 25/11/2021 21:21

hedwigismyowl - so glad you said that! I feel really bad wanting to stop and thought people would come down hard on me, so it's nice to know I'm not the only one fed up!

I've done them twice weekly for months now. Currently testing daily as DD has covid.

Yes it's a little bit uncomfortable, but it takes less time than it takes to boil the kettle.

Don't give up. Half of DD's class have covid. If people had been testing regularly then her class wouldn't have been so disrupted.

Newchallenge · 25/11/2021 21:24

Yes you are being unreasonable if you work in health care.

Have you tried the newest ones? Order from the government website, it's much easier with those.

ginslinger · 25/11/2021 21:26

I'm still testing twice a week - it's not my favourite thing to do but I do it when I first get up and then I get the result - the new tests I have are just for the nose and give results in 15 mins

Madwife123 · 25/11/2021 21:28

I do them but not twice weekly. It was giving me nose bleeds so I had to reduce it. Most of my colleagues (also healthcare) have stopped or reduced also. It all seems a bit pointless now that the rules say you can be working with direct contact with vulnerable patients despite having a positive covid case in your own home. That made me think why am I bothering.

CraftyGin · 25/11/2021 21:28

Don't you think that it is a bit pathetic that you don't want to protect others because the LFT makes you sneeze?

The new LFTs are so much easier in that they don't make you gag and you get the results within 15 minutes.

Do your bit.

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/11/2021 21:32

I'm fed up with doing them twice a week and also pcr once a week. Been doing this for nearly a year. Some weeks I will do the 2 but sometimes i forget. Still do pcr every wk, they are always negative. My kids are adult and have had their vaccines too. Hardly go anywhere, only supermarket or local shop. Wear a mask every time I go in these places.

Madwife123 · 25/11/2021 21:33

@CraftyGin Don’t you think those in healthcare have more than done their bit and now the government couldn’t care less about spreading CoVid as long as we are still in work so why should we?

jerometheturnipking · 25/11/2021 21:35

I do them twice a week without fail. I want to minimise the risk that I could inadvertently be passing school germs on to family members. At the moment I’m testing daily because I’ve had positive cases in my class.

LizzieSiddal · 25/11/2021 21:38

We do them twice a week.

The ones we have had recently only take 15 minutes and you only have to do your nose. They are much less faffy. We ordered them on the internet via NHS.

TSSDNCOP · 25/11/2021 21:50

Yes. It's what we do now. It's a two minute job twice a week. I cannot understand why that would be a problem for anyone.

totallytotalled · 25/11/2021 21:50

I have to do them every time I go into work - once a week.
The other day I got a positive result, despite being triple jabbed!
Keep on doing them

Firesidefox · 25/11/2021 21:53

That is a really pathetic thing to say

Ladylunchalot · 25/11/2021 22:32

Yes still doing lft twice a week. I work in NHS and most of us are still doing them. Dh is immunosuppressed so I'm v wary of passing it onto him.
I do it then set an alarm for 30 mins so that I don't forget. I normally do them before bed so I'm more chilled and have time to do them.

Underparmummy · 26/11/2021 10:56

I struggle a little with adults moaning about LFT. Its not very hard and less annoying than most household chores. Especially unloading the dishwasher.

I work in healthcare so still do them as I think I should. I work with vulnerable people. If I’m meeting someone or going to a gig I would so I kind of time it for that.

I’m fully vaccinated and boosted. But not had covid yet.

Can understand why people are sick of it and if theyve had covid in the last 6 months too but the pandemic is very much ongoing and I meet positive patients mosts shifts.

Niki14 · 26/11/2021 11:23

It is mandatory where I work (also healthcare) to do weekly testing and report it. If you don't you face disciplinary action. Yes it's a bit of a faff but the potential result of staff not testing and passing covid to patients is too great to not test.

Watapalava · 26/11/2021 11:24

Not doing them(never did) - honestly other than on mumsnet, i don't know anyone still doing them.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 26/11/2021 11:35

Seriously? My dc in secondary is doing it twice weekly without complaining. I assume adult who works in healthcare should be able to too.

Heyvedge · 26/11/2021 11:36

Never done one, people sometimes have to do them for work or school but apart from that I doubt most people do as a matter of course. We don't work or have children so never did this

MrsFezziwig · 26/11/2021 11:45
  • I don’t need them for work so probably not twice a week, but I do them if I’m going to have close contact with people
  • you can read the result after 15 minutes not 30
  • I would suggest if they’re giving you nosebleeds you’re maybe being a bit over-vigorous?
TulipsGarden · 26/11/2021 12:07

Still doing them before seeing vulnerable people (pregnant friends, elderly relatives) but we work from home so not doing them twice weekly.

I have very little patience with someone who works in healthcare essentially saying they can't be bothered.

RuthW · 26/11/2021 12:10

Like me, you work in healthcare. You should carry on. It's not a faff, it takes two mins. I do twice weekly, but go to daily if I have had a contact.

LFTs have caught two of us with no symptoms in the last few weeks.
