Lateral Flow Testing - still doing it?

SoSoTiredToday · 25/11/2021 21:15

We are meant to LFT twice weekly at work and record details on computer programme each time. I can't take it anymore. It's so uncomfortable in the nose, makes me sneeze, eyes water. I have so much going on in my life etc.. I keep forgetting. I don't have time to keep waiting 30 mins for the results and faffing round with all the bits and bobs. I really hate it all.

I know IABU because I work in healthcare and it's important to protect clients and colleagues.

But - I've had covid, and have had all 3 vaccines so I am perhaps a little protected.

Am I really bad to give up and stop testing? (Yes, I think I am)

Are you someone that has honestly been doing your LFT twice weekly without fail? What keeps you going?

Do you think most people are doing these?

Please carry on doing them, from somebody who has just got over quite a bad ‘mild’ case of covid. I can’t do them for 90 days now but my 2 school age dds are doing them.

Cyw2018 · 26/11/2021 15:56

I'm part time, so only lft once a week, but I have been doing it since the test were issued to me at work and continue to do it. I just do my test, set a timer on Alexa and then get my food and bag ready for work the next day whilst the timers counting down, not exactly hard.

Bonkerz · 26/11/2021 16:38

Still doing them on a Sunday and Wednesday and also if we are going to a crowded event (theatre or pub etc)
DS age 10s school has just demanded all year 5 and 6 children take a PCR so that was don't today too

Pushkinia · 26/11/2021 17:23

I’m still doing them twice weekly - I work in schools and visiting staff are not allowed in without proof of a negative LFT.

Please don't bin them, there's nothing wrong with them. [/quote]
I don't intend to use them so I wasn't sure what else to do with them. If I need them I'll order some of the new ones. I didn't order them, they were given to me when I went for a PCR ages ago.

SpeedRunParent · 26/11/2021 17:50

@PinkSparklyPussyCat
Why not just keep hold of them for when you do need them? I don't understand the rationale. To me it sounds like 'I was given a box of plasters, I didn't ask for them so I will throw them away and then buy a pack when I need them next'.

MargaretThursday · 26/11/2021 18:00

We're still doing them. Twice a week for me and the children at school. Don't normally bother registering them though.

MeanderingGently · 26/11/2021 18:09

The tests are simple, easy to do and no, you don't have to wait 30 minutes for the result, it's usually obvious before that.
At one point I was doing the tests every day for months because of a work situation. I still do them about 3 times a week....and with the latest worry about a new variant, it's wise to continue.

If there are ones that I don't have to stick down my throat I'd rather use those than the ones I've got! I've never done a test of any sort myself, they've always been done for me, and it's taken several goes for them to do the throat swab at the test centre as I start coughing.

If I have to do an LFT could I use the old style ones and just do the nose swab?

toomuchlaundry · 26/11/2021 18:37

I think you can @PinkSparklyPussyCat but do both nostrils not just the one

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/11/2021 18:50

Thanks @toomuchlaundry

bloodywhitecat · 26/11/2021 18:54

I am doing them because it is the only way I get to see my husband, I live in fear of a positive result.

vdbfamily · 26/11/2021 19:00

yes still do two per week but not reporting as too much of a faff each time. I would report if positive obviously!!

GodIsAVegan · 26/11/2021 19:14

I’m not vaccinated so do them when I go out/mix with others, up to 4 times a week. My kids are still doing them too. OH does them if he has to go into the office for meetings, but that’s not often. I think they’re worth doing.
Most of my friends and their kids are still doing them as well, I presumed most people were.

SmellyOldOwls · 26/11/2021 19:20

I quite like doing them. Reminds me of taking pregnancy tests Blush

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 26/11/2021 19:22

Yep twice a week here. Im a SAHM but our local council is asking all parents of school age children to test twice weekly

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 26/11/2021 19:22

Also I'm triple jabbed

GodIsAVegan · 26/11/2021 20:28

If doing LFTs remind you of doing pregnancy tests, I’m slightly concerned about the method you’re using to do LFTs......or maybe pregnancy tests. 🤣

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/11/2021 20:36

Sorry if it's a stupid question but what's the point of reporting a negative result?

toomuchlaundry · 26/11/2021 20:37

I meant the waiting for a line bit GrinGrin

@Madwife123

I do them but not twice weekly. It was giving me nose bleeds so I had to reduce it. Most of my colleagues (also healthcare) have stopped or reduced also. It all seems a bit pointless now that the rules say you can be working with direct contact with vulnerable patients despite having a positive covid case in your own home. That made me think why am I bothering.
I though healthcare workers were supposed to isolate if there's a case in their home?

I do twice weekly. It is a faff, but I do it before I go into hospital for outpatient services (after my accident) I do it to help protect healthcare workers & other outpatients. I just have to trust they're doing the same!

olivo · 26/11/2021 21:16

I am doing them every morning, as are my school age children. Results only input twice a week, but I don't want them or me to risk taking the virus into school. They are done before cereal and ready after!

Fadette · 26/11/2021 21:24

You must have a really easy life if you think it's a big hassle to wipe around your nose with a swab and put some drops on a test.

MrsFezziwig · 26/11/2021 21:28

I've only ever done two. Once when I had Covid and this week when I have a stinking cold. I find them extraordinarily unpleasant.

If you find sticking what is basically a cotton bud one inch up your nose “extraordinarily unpleasant”, you’ve clearly led a very charmed life.
