Lateral Flow Testing - still doing it?

We are meant to LFT twice weekly at work and record details on computer programme each time. I can't take it anymore. It's so uncomfortable in the nose, makes me sneeze, eyes water. I have so much going on in my life etc.. I keep forgetting. I don't have time to keep waiting 30 mins for the results and faffing round with all the bits and bobs. I really hate it all.

I know IABU because I work in healthcare and it's important to protect clients and colleagues.

But - I've had covid, and have had all 3 vaccines so I am perhaps a little protected.

Am I really bad to give up and stop testing? (Yes, I think I am)

Are you someone that has honestly been doing your LFT twice weekly without fail? What keeps you going?

Do you think most people are doing these?

@MrsFezziwig

I've only ever done two. Once when I had Covid and this week when I have a stinking cold. I find them extraordinarily unpleasant.

If you find sticking what is basically a cotton bud one inch up your nose “extraordinarily unpleasant”, you’ve clearly led a very charmed life.

Oh don't be a dick. You know nothing about me 🙄

@NovemberNovemberDarkNights Nope!

I’m a midwife in case my name doesn’t give it away. Recently I had 3 positive cases in my home after the children came down with it one by one. I was told I still needed to go into work, work with extremely vulnerable unvaccinated pregnant women despite the fact it’s impossible to isolate from my children and despite being vaccinated myself the evidence shows I can still spread it. If I didn’t come to work I would have been unpaid and faced disciplinary.

The whole system is a farce and the government couldn’t care less about it spreading with these new rules so it’s made me think why should I.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 26/11/2021 23:08

I do it twice a week without fail:

Wednesday before going to work
Sunday before bellringing

Required for both but I’d do it anyway because it seems like the right thing to do.

worriedatthemoment · 26/11/2021 23:16

@Madwife123 really ? As i know a nurse not allowed in as her household has covid

Madwife123 · 27/11/2021 00:45

@worriedatthemoment It comes down to the individual trust to decide the rules. That’s the problem.

greenlynx · 27/11/2021 00:48

I’m SAHM so do them only before longish contacts indoors e.g medical appointments, meet ups. DH is working mainly from home so only does them before going to the office. DD does them once a week and plus before medical appointments. She has additional needs and really struggles with tests so once a week is a great achievement for her. We all vaccinated, DH and I wear masks in public places and none of us use public transport.
It’s really worrying that someone in healthcare is not doing regularly testing.

oviraptor21 · 27/11/2021 00:55

Absolutely keep on doing them. We should all be doing our utmost to protect those around us at the same time as keeping businesses open.
The government has been asking us to LFT if we are going out to any kind of gathering, not just work and large events, for some while now.

Nah. I had Covid in August so I wasn't supposed to do them anyway. Did not end up on a ventilator, the doom mongers on here need to get a grip. My 90 days are up but I'm not bothering to do them again for a while as I've likely got good immunity for a while.

Elieza · 27/11/2021 11:51

To those who are taking the ‘I’m alright jack’ attitude, the testing isn’t for you, it’s for others so you don’t carry it to them.

Double or triple vaxd doesn’t mean you can’t be a symptomless carrier.

Double or triple vaxd doesn’t mean you can’t end up with long covid.

We have to think of others who are less fortunate than ourselves.

FMD that's mental!!!

Absolutely fucking ridiculous!!!

What are they thinking?

I still hope, for the pregnant women's sake, you keep doing the LFT's, but whoever is dictating you must go into work in those circumstances needs a good hard kick in the shins.

Is there anything we can do to make our thoughts known??

Do you know how I can find out what my trusts rules are? (As an out patient)

MeetMeAtOurSpot · 27/11/2021 12:08

@ShonkyWonkyDonkey

Minimum of twice weekly here, it's really no bother at all, wake up, do test, make breakfast and have that, then results are ready. It is a small thing that could protect those around me.
Me too. I’m not understanding why it’s such a bother.

I just posted on another thread, 2 of our triple vaccinated colleagues currently have Covid.
They found out by doing their regular LFT.

It is, but as I had Covid so recently it's highly unlikely that I'll get it again at the moment to pass on to anyone else.
toomuchlaundry · 27/11/2021 12:11

Will some people change their mind about not testing if this new variant takes hold in this country?

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 27/11/2021 12:18
@CraftyGin Don’t you think those in healthcare have more than done their bit and now the government couldn’t care less about spreading CoVid as long as we are still in work so why should we?
I understand you feeling like that about the Govt/Trust bosses etc, but surely you do them for the pregnant women and their babies, not the Govt?!?!

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 27/11/2021 19:07

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Sorry if it's a stupid question but what's the point of reporting a negative result?
It gives them An idea of how many people are doing them & where, and the percentage positive v negative.

But not impossible.
