Another positive LFT negative pcr thread

I’m so confused. My DH had an email from work on Tuesday informing him that a few people had tested positive that he was in a meeting with last week. He then tested at home and had a faint positive LFT. Pcr booked and returned this morning Negative. He did another Lft this morning, faint positive again. He has zero symptoms. He has to travel for work to Europe next week and work are saying it’s absolutely fine and to carry on as he’s had a negative pcr today. They won’t accept him not going next week. Should he just carry on as normal? He’s double vaccinated and believed to have had Covid in March 2020. Any suggestions why his lft’s are positive but pcr is negative?

I think you have to go by the positive LTF plus the circumstances at work which suggest he is very likely to have it. False positive LTFs are much less likely than false negative PCRs.

We were in a similar situation and went with the LTF because we had a confirmed case at home already.

Maybe leave it a few days and test again and you may find the PCR is positive by then. Not sure what to suggest if it isn't if work don't agree though.

I'm having similar issues here, we have household members with Covid, I've testing positive on LF's but negative on PCR and have symptoms too. So confusing, wish I knew what was causing it.

Maybe another lab problem like the Wolverhampton situation. We've been through this multiple times in my household.. Or maybe theres an issue wuth some lfts. Its a mystery!

Neither of us want him to go to Europe in case he is positive but work will not accept him not going without a positive pcr. This is his lft. It’s not a bright line like the children had when they had Covid in the summer. More like a shadow line. He has zero symptoms, loads of energy etc

That's not a faint line OP.

Having said that the test looks flooded/too wet. There's a band of dye above the control line so it's possible it's a band of dye from flooding around the test line area too. Can you repeat the LFT again, taking care to only put 4 small drops in (I think this is a 4-drop test but check the instructions).

This is happening loads, especially the last two weeks. My dd has had two positive LF’s, close contact of confirmed cases in her class, terrible cough and temp, a very heavy cold.. yet 3 negative pcr’s! The school say she can go in as soon as she’s well enough. So frustrating!

I really think there is a lab problem.

Helinher30s · 25/11/2021 16:54

The ‘flooding’ has happened on both lft’s he’s taken. The children and I have done lft’s from the same box. Clearly negative with no flooding so it’s not a problem with the box of tests. It’s all very strange. I wonder if there is a lab problem. He’s not unwell in the slightest so it’s all a mystery.

Have another PCR to be on safe side

Notstrongandstable · 25/11/2021 17:08

Some people had success(!) with a postal test rather than another centre PCR jn the SW lab problem era.
Could you try that?
