Two inconclusive PCRs

DS got a strong positive on a lateral flow test - thick line that appeared within minutes. Took him for a PCR and got one for myself at the same time. I don't feel like we did anything different than we've ever done before, but both came back inconclusive.

Feel like I've failed a test at school! We've taken PCRs before and have always got a result back. Now I'm doubting myself that I didn't do the test thoroughly enough - DS did both nostrils and the testing staff said that was OK as he's only nine. But I did tonsils and nostril and thought I'd done it right. Has anyone had that happen before?

We had an inconclusive, think our dd was too snotty. We repeated and got a result.

Actually that's a good point. DS did blow his nose but the swab was still quite snotty! God knows what happened to mine though.

Did you manage to avoid your tongue when you did yours? I think a lot of inconclusive results have happened when accidentally hitting the tongue during the throat swab.

Did he forgot to not eat or drink in the hour before the test?

We all had PCRs at the same time that came back as inconclusive. Having done loads of test before (that were always negative) I presumed a lab error rather than anything we did.

It's possible that since we've done so many I've got a bit blase about taking them and have stopped doing it as thoroughly. Anyway, time will tell - went back again today for another go and was extra conscientious! Really took our time and followed the instructions to the letter.
