Day 2 lateral flow test

Hi there, first trip abroad since the pandemic started and trying to get my head around the rules. Per the Gov website, I only need a day 2 lateral flow test on return to the UK. My understanding is that I can purchase and have this delivered before I fly so that I already have it when I return. I then have the booking reference for the passenger form. Then I can simply take the test at home on/before day 2. Provider websites say I then take a photo of the results together with my passport, email it back and get a verification certificate.

Have I understood this correctly? It sounds deceivingly straightforward compared to previous rules which is why I'm second-guessing myself! Thanks.

Yeah, the important thing is the reference number you get emailed after purchasing the test (mine arrived immediately). That’s what you need to enter on the UK passenger locator form in the 48 hours before your arrival in the UK.
