Do you think the UK will eventually follow Austria and Germany and introduce mandatory vaccination for Covid?

How are Austria and Germany intending to force people to be vaccinated?

@MiniatureHotdog

No.

I'm vaccinated but am horrified at the idea of making it compulsory. Everyone should have the right to decide what gets put into their own body. What a terrifying precedent to set.

This!

No way would I support it.

MarshaBradyo · 22/11/2021 20:37

This. Even when 'required'

Is forcing people so great when you get protests and riots as kick back

What’s going on atm in countries forcing population doesn’t look that good,

ufucoffee · 22/11/2021 20:39

No

Well it would be nice if people wore masks on public transport without being forced. But they are too selfish so whatever.

I don't agree with forcing vaccines (except requiring them for some jobs) but the lack of social conscience from anti-mask people is stunning.

N4ish · 22/11/2021 20:40

Definitely not in England. I’m 100% pro vaccination but I’m firmly against it being compulsory.

Agree with this. I’m not so sure about Scotland and Wales.
Dentistlakes · 22/11/2021 20:48

No. I think compulsory vaccination is a mistake and will backfire in those countries who decide to implement it. I do think the knock on effect to us in terms of travel will persuade uk residents to get vaccinated though.

Egghead68 · 22/11/2021 20:49

No

lightand · 22/11/2021 20:55

Are Austria and Germany planning to forcibly constrain people and inject them?

Yes I read it on here.

No. FFS of course not.

But they are taking about fines and possibly even imprisonments. Which is shocking as well.

sashagabadon · 22/11/2021 21:02

I hope not. I’ll be marching too!

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 22/11/2021 21:07

Germany is just at the beginning of discussing the possibility of compulsory vaccinations. Austria has announced plans to introduce them in February of next year but has not finalised what that would mean: probably a large fine.

IMO it won't happen here. The UK population has been so keen to get vaccinated that we have very little to gain by compulsion, and there's a hefty libertarian contingent in the Tory backbenches and indeed in their cabinet.

CathyorClaire · 22/11/2021 21:09

Not for everyone but I think SEN settings will be added to NHS and care home workers.
.

Coconutmeg · 22/11/2021 21:15

They might have to do away with the unvaccinated people being on full pay for 10 days for isolating though, so they can afford cover/agency staff.
At least the care homes and NHS will be staffed as best as possible through the pandemic especially as it’s a high risk sector. But other services are really struggling when they have covid outbreaks (some towns and cities having no post etc) and some of that is with staff off because they chose not to have the vaccine, and people are getting pretty fed up of struggling to cover the work of others who are off on full pay.
I don’t know what the answer is.

3WildOnes · 22/11/2021 21:16

Absolutely not. I am vaccinated but I don’t think people should be forced to vaccinate.

Claudethecat · 22/11/2021 21:23

@justasking111

Austria figures are so low 12k deaths altogether. They're unhinged or perhaps we are with so many deaths. I'm in Wales our government keep rumbling about things but we haven't finished jabbing the over 70s with boosters, nor the teenagers, can't see over 60s getting a jab this side of Xmas.
I am in Wales, in my 50s and getting the booster next week. My husband has already had his, there were loads of under 60s at the vaccination centre.
Remmy123 · 22/11/2021 21:46

No.

Quite apart from whether Austria is doing the right thing, its current case numbers are significantly higher per head of population than the UK's was back in January and still rising astonishingly quickly..., The fact they weren't affected like we were back in Spring 2020 is irrelevant.
justasking111 · 22/11/2021 22:05

@Claudethecat , which health board if I may ask. Betsi cadwaladr is ours

AnneElliott · 22/11/2021 22:23

No I don't think this would be brought in here. I don't think there's any point since vaccination rates are still good.

Plus it's really not the British way. I don't agree with mandatory vaccinations (outside NHS roles etc) and I can't see the public accepting that either.

ChaToilLeam · 22/11/2021 22:27

Germany has not brought in compulsory vaccination. It’s under discussion, that is where things currently stand.

Austria is implementing this from the start of February.

Please, get your facts right. I’m not in favor of compulsory vaccination, but if voluntary numbers don’t increase soon then it will be imposed here in Deutschland, I am sure.

IndigoC · 22/11/2021 22:46

@CatServantIII

Ha ha! They are too spineless to force people to wear masks, so that would be a no…
This.

You say this as though mandatory vaccines have never happened before.

It was how they eradicated smallpox.

There is already a precedent set and no-one has used it in the last 100 years Hmm

wheresmymojo · 22/11/2021 23:07

I wonder if all those who are against mandatory vaccination are against it for everything?

Do you think we should have let smallpox continue?

If smallpox or a similar disease rears it's head, will you be happy for it to remain and impact your family?
