Please explain which bit of this makes any sense!!! Unvaccinated people newly recovered from covid pumped full of antibodies (tested x2 and confirmed by the NHS) still have to self-isolate on contact with the infected, whereas someone who let's say was last jabbed in spring with clearly depleting antibody levels, doesn't.

OP posts:
Nerdygirl · 21/11/2021 22:10

No logic - it’s there to coerce everyone to get jabbed regardless

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/11/2021 22:11

This was always going to happen. Either get the vaccine or accept that you will be inconvenienced, it's that simple.

perfectSmiles3 · 21/11/2021 22:17

@Waxonwaxoff0..... it's that "simple"? Which bit of this is simple? as I am now allowed to go to the theatre and attend any events by showing my covid pass, but I still have to self-isolate upon contact with an infected work colleague, who is most probably vaccinated, as they are clearly in the majority in any workplace nowadays.

skipperjonce · 21/11/2021 22:23

Just get the jab and stop being so bloody selfish.

Glinsk · 21/11/2021 22:27

No sympathy. There is a simple solution- get vaccinated.

All of it. What bit confuses you?

perfectSmiles3 · 21/11/2021 22:39

@skipperjonce and @Glinsk - nobody has asked for your or anyone else's sympathy on here. However, I did ask a question, which you don't seem to be able to answer.

This person has antibodies…why does that make them selfish?

Many countries around the world accept recent infection the same as the vaccine.

perfectSmiles3 · 21/11/2021 22:45

why do some MNetters coming here feel that they have the right to literally order me to get jabbed?!? Who exactly are you to me?! NOBODY!!

You could, however, go back to the opening post and try and answer my question with some intelligence perhaps?

OP posts:

Yes, it’s ridiculous. No, it doesn’t make any sense.

I can’t recall the name of the virology expert, but last week on a you and yours phone in, they explained it in very simple terms.

Everyone who has contacted Covid and recovered has “some” antibodies.

“Some” antibodies is not as good as the far greater level of antibodies provided by infection plus vaccination.

It really is that straightforward.

1dayatatime · 21/11/2021 23:04

@MrsSkylerWhite

"“Some” antibodies is not as good as the far greater level of antibodies provided by infection plus vaccination."

I agree with the logic of OP that the antibodies of someone recently infected are higher than someone vaccinated say 6 months ago.

I also firmly agree with your logic that someone who has had the vaccination AND been infected with covid would have even greater levels of antibodies.

Sadly the rent a mob vaccination zealots on this post don't seem to do logic.

perfectSmiles3 · 21/11/2021 23:34

@MrsSkylerWhiteMrs this does make sense, but still doesn't explain how and why they distinguish, for this one situation only (i.e. self-isolation after being close contact), between a recently infected person and the rest of society among whom the combination of natural infection and vaccination status is endless when it comes to dates (i.e. who and when had the virus naturally and/or the vaccines ). Sorry, I hope the way I'm writing it down makes sense...

BlackeyedSusan · 21/11/2021 23:54

because rules have to be set one size fits all. there will always be outliers. which is annoying for the outliers...

also I suspect some carrot and stick

also some policies to cover up incompetance... or political leanings regarding level of restrictive measures.

Mossstitch · 21/11/2021 23:58

Makes no sense whatsoever especially as the most recent studies show you have much broader immunity from natural infection than the vaccinated 🤷 and 32 times less likely to get infected again.

Kummerspeck · 22/11/2021 00:03

According to the Zoe app, one in five people who catch Covid do not make antibodies so it is not as simple as you suggest.

FflosFfantastig · 22/11/2021 04:04

It doesn't make any sense. It's just punishment for the decision on vaccination. There's no good looking for logic where there isn't any.

Wow I hadn’t heard that! Do you mind sharing the study? There are so many ways to interpret these things and I find it’s best to read the source.

Get jabbed, don’t get jabbed I don’t care but if a normal life for you requires a vaccination and you don’t get vaccinated then don’t come crying to me when you can’t go to the pub; restaurant; cinema, theatre etc.

Only if you have been infected AND then have the vaccine. Otherwise a vaccinated person is less likely to (obviously) have the virus to pass on to start with, and marginally less likely to pass it on if they are unfortunate enough to catch it.

Here's one from Imperial from about a month ago.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 22/11/2021 06:24

You are right science-wise, but maybe not public health wise.

Ultimately, on a population level, vaccinations are the solution. And it is not wrong to (heavily) incentivise people to have them.

It is really not sensible to encourage people to get COVID thinking (mistakenly) that it is a better solution than getting jabbed.

Theunamedcat · 22/11/2021 06:25

Because rules cannot be made to suit individuals they have to be made for the majority not the minority
