LFT Confusion

Tested last night negative. Testing this morning very faint positive, 2 more tests negative. Have had a PCR this morning so time will tell but I went to 3 events yesterday after not having any social events in months. I feel awful that I could have it.
I have what feels like the start of a cold but have been testing regularly as my parents are CEV so I test before I see them.

My sons positive LFT was so clear instantly it was startling! I guess you can only wait for the PCR results now.

My nieces was too, within seconds very strong second line

Well I had a positive pcr on Friday, not many symptoms other than a light cold but I tested as a precaution as my colleague was positive. Out of curiosity I've since done 2 lft's and they're both negative!

spiderlight · 21/11/2021 14:24

We've all had clear positive PCRs this week, DH and I have also had positive LFTs and we have very obvious symptoms, but 14-year-old DS's LFTs have been negative all week.

Crazy! I understand the LFT’s serve a purpose but it’s worrying how many false negatives you hear about!

My DD’s LFT’s were negative, one really faint positive (after the 30 Mins and held up to the window). Had a PCR as a close contact and it was positive, did a LFT the day of the PCR results and positive straight the way so for us the LFT’s seemed to lag 24 hours.

StoppedWineIng · 21/11/2021 16:40

@Softpebbles I really had to hold mine up to the light to see it!

Feel rough and had 2 very very faint like I’m wondering if I’m seeing things, lateral flow tests tonight. Is this possible shall I do another PCR in a couple of days?

OP posts:
snaxinyourslacks · 22/11/2021 20:18

Definitely get yourself another pcr! My lateral flows are still showing negative when I've had a positive pcr.

BigRedDuck · 22/11/2021 20:25

DS showed positive today on his LFT within seconds. Awaiting results of PCRs. I think it's very rare to get a false negative

StoppedWineIng · 22/11/2021 21:14

Think I’ll stay home as much as I can and get another PCR in a couple of days

Very rare to get a false positive LFT, you’re about 7-8 times more likely to get false negative PCR.

Another like this this morning

It seems to be a thing at the moment.
We had a faint line on my sons lft (symptomatic, very poorly), negative pcr and negative lft when repeated a few days later.

RuthW · 23/11/2021 12:23

Lfts are not reliable when you have symptoms. You have symptoms so you need a pcr

JanglyBeads · 23/11/2021 18:52

@ruthw but recent studies ave found them very reliable if they show a positive when you have symptoms, it’s just when they return a negative that they’re not.

StoppedWineIng · 23/11/2021 19:25

I took a PCR Sunday and it was negative. I went for another this evening so we will see.
