Do I need to isolate

Toomuchtobedone · 21/11/2021 11:04

Looking for a bit of advice as I can't find specific information online. I've just recovered from Covid, I was infected a month ago, and was better by about day 16, so I've been ok for around 2 weeks. It is now going around my children's class, probably from my child initially. I saw a friend 2 days ago and she has now tested positive along with her child who is in the same class as mine. Do I need to isolate again even though it is so soon since I have had it? I am not vaccinated due to medical reasons I am not willing to share here, not looking for any debates about vaccination status please. Just actual information about this situation.

Take a test is your best bet. But my initial thought was no. Glad you're feeling better

WorriedGiraffe · 21/11/2021 11:06

Has she given your details to test and trace? Because they will tell you if so. I think you do though, there’s never been a clause that allows you to avoid isolation if you’ve had it recently as far as I’m aware.

CactusFlowers · 21/11/2021 11:09

Yes, as you’re unvaccinated you have to isolate.

Watapalava · 21/11/2021 11:13

you will have to if your friend names you and you dont have to do anything until informed by T&T. Ring her and ask her not to identify you as a contact.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 11:15

Yes - If you’ve had close contact with the friend or her child (ie been closer than 1 metre, or closer than 2 metres for more than 15 minutes (Google to double check definition)) then yes you do need to.

If you were double vaxed then no you don’t - unless you are in Scotland when you have to whether you are vaxed or not.

Nope. If you know you have been a close contact you need to isolate if you aren’t double vaxed. The point of test and trace is to let people know who may not realise.

I’m of course many people ignore this, but thems the rules.

Similarity you should not ask your friend to not report you, although again, people do..

Hadn't thought about test and trace, she just messaged me this morning to let me know but she had only just had her results. Although when I was positive I didn't hear from them at all! I'm in Wales so don't know if it's the same system. Thanks all

Lured you are wrong

Gov website states you will be contacted. There is no legal obligation to isolate whatsoever without notification from T&T. People cannot simply go round claiming they have to isolate because 'they met a friend'.....

Watapalava · 21/11/2021 11:25

"Government guidance says you should stay at home and self-isolate if:

you have symptoms of coronavirus – you can check the symptoms of coronavirus on the NHS website
you test positive for coronavirus
you’re told by the NHS you've been in contact with someone with coronavirus - this includes getting a message or ‘ping’ from the NHS COVID-19 app
someone you live with has symptoms or tests positive for coronavirus
You don’t need to self-isolate just because someone you live with was told to self-isolate by the NHS.

The government guidance doesn't say you need to self-isolate just because you’ve been in contact with someone with coronavirus – unless you’re told to by the NHS. You should continue to keep at least 2 metres away from people who aren't members of your household, or at least 1 metre if that's not possible."

Watapalava · 21/11/2021 11:27

The whole point of T&T is not o trace your contacts. Its to identify if you are a contact. YOU do not get to make that decision

Many did throughout (mostly people who wanted time off) but no individual should ever have been making that choice.

Yes, I understand that, I don't want to isolate! But if I'm vaccinated I don't have to even if T&T contact me, and I now have a covid pass due to a positive test that gives me the same status as a vaccinated person so I guess I'm asking if it is the same for isolating? I will ask T&T if they contact me, but as I said they didn't contact me when I was positive (Wales, is it the same system?) so I don't know if they will now.

Covid pass doesn't apply to contact isolation - only travel. You will still have to isolate if traced so speak to your friend - im sure she wont identify if you ask.

Oh yeah. You are right - apols - these are our work regulations. I didn’t realise it had changed for the public.

There might be no 'legal' obligation, but it's just a loophole if your contact details haven't been given to T&T. You know that if they HAD been given to them, you'd have to isolate, and using that loophole is irresponsible.
kimlo · 21/11/2021 12:10

people who can't get vaccinated for medical reasons are exempt from isolation in the same way they would be if they had been vaccinated.

But those reasons are very narrow, so it'll depend what your medical reason is.

Blupblup · 21/11/2021 12:12

Welsh gov website seems to indicate you do have to isolate - this is separate from the section about being contacted by t&t
