Have I messed up on booster date?

PlinkPlankPlunk · 21/11/2021 06:38

I am in the 50+ group so was able to book my booster a few weeks ago. I took the first date offered on the system, which was 2nd December; I had my second jab on 5th June so it is just less than six months (178 days to be precise)

I’ve just seen on another thread that someone was turned away for it not being a full six months in between - is this a thing? It seems like I might have cocked up with the dates - but I just went with what was offered. Can anyone that knows about this advise please? The NHS website does say six months actually!

So I think the way to get an earlier appointment is to book directly with the vaccination centre if that's possible.

I booked the booster for 29th November using the NHS website. But then was able to get the earlier date of the 20th (170 days) after getting a text from Guy's. They also had a phone helpline that was surprisingly easy to get through to.

gogohm · 21/11/2021 09:51

180 days is the computer set minimum. We've opted for 190 days to ensure our trip in May is within 6 months

Naughtynovembertree · 21/11/2021 11:30

Why's is a the date between so strict?
Will it harm us to have it a little earlier

Cookerhood · 21/11/2021 11:54

We are a walk in, so try one of those. Officially it's 6 months but we do them at 5 months rather than send people away who might not return.

WombatChocolate · 21/11/2021 18:21

I would simply re-book. You can go o to the system and do that within a few minutes. Why wouldn't you do this.

If in the meantime you pass a walk-in, you could ask if you can be done. As someone said, they might be a bit more flexible as walk-ins are all about getting people done and making it as easy as poss.

But just change it. You'll only worry you'll be turned away, and there's a good chance you will be. You can avoid all this and get another appointment. Do it today, as under 50s will all be booking like mad from tomorrow, so get in quick.

72WayTooCool · 21/11/2021 18:33

I'm under 50 and managed to book late last night. Just counted the days between my 2nd dose and booster and it's 181. Am going to chance it. We have a mass vax centre just up the road so if I get turned away it's only a two minute drive. Don't want to make it for the following day as it's already 20th December and don't fancy feeling poo for Christmas week.

Delatron · 21/11/2021 19:54

I think this is ridiculous. Turning people away over a day or so. There’s no safety reason for 6 months versus a 5 months and 3 weeks is there?

We need as many boosters in arms before all the Christmas parties and mixing.

Yes this and it’s also crazy that the systems are booking people in for something they shouldn’t and that different centres have different rules!

Considering how smoothly the initial vaccine rollout was, this is really quite shocking.

I’m personally not eligible for a booster and it’s not something I’m thinking about much or that fussed about either way. If my turn comes around and I’m turned away for some ridiculous reason I’m not sure how much effort I’d put into returning.

CouldThisReallyBe · 21/11/2021 20:22

In my borough they're inviting the over 50s to book from 5 months post 2nd vaccine.

SparklingLime · 21/11/2021 20:30

@RagzReturnsRebooted

We had to turn someone away yesterday at 181 days. Not sure why the system let them book, if we weren't allowed to give it. Felt really sorry for the person, it wasn't their fault!
I’m amazed people are still being turned away, over a day or two. This was meant to have been sorted out weeks ago. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/11/08/record-booster-vaccinations-booked-rules-loosen-over-50s/

Well hopefully the vaccination centres that are turning people away have seen this updated guidance.

@RagzReturnsRebooted who decides to turn people away? The person in charge? Maybe they need to see that update.

Jng1 · 21/11/2021 20:52

The earliest date I could book was 6 months and 1 week, so I did.
Meanwhile I heard that our local walk in centre would jab anyone over 5 months so I turned up there and got my jab last Weds at 169 days.
They cancelled my later appointment automatically.

Yes, the person in charge. But the system also flags up as being early and won't let us do it!
RagzReturnsRebooted · 22/11/2021 13:42

I know. I'd heard it on the news weeks ago so assumed we'd be able to, I have no idea why we couldn't.

Cookerhood · 22/11/2021 13:42

It will let you do it, it just reminds you (big red box!) that it's less than 180 days. You can still process the entry.

That's interesting. I was turned away on Saturday at a walk in centre when I was on 175 days. I was told that the system wouldn't let them record a walk in vaccination if it was under 182 days. But if you had a booked appointment via the NHS website at say 180 days then that was ok and could be processed.

The walk in centre was on their first day of vaccination so perhaps that isn't entirely correct but they didn't boost me and said come back in a week.

Cookerhood · 22/11/2021 14:32

I've done plenty in a walk in at 5 months. Like I say, you get a big red banner checking that you want to proceed but it doesn't actually stop you. It will depend on the clinical lead at the site.

2020isnotbehaving · 22/11/2021 14:35

I’ve just booked mine first date was day 182 but not sure if it’s that plus one as it’s day 182 but it’s booked for 9am so not actually been full 182 days only 181 plus what 9 hours!
Hope they show sense of it let’s you book what does another 24h make we know over time it goes down it’s not 100% day 181 0 at 182.

Gingerkittykat · 22/11/2021 15:06

@2reefsin30knots

I went on Friday. I'm 42 but on an earlier cycle as I'm a special needs teacher.

The vaccination centre asked no questions at all. Not when my last vaccine was nor what job I did (hence early eligibility).

They already know when your last vaccine is as it is on your records. They knew my first jabs were AZ and told me it was Pfizer for boosters.

They don't need to know the reason you are called since it is someone else who decides when you are eligible.

MsMartini · 22/11/2021 15:38

I've just been boostered at a walk in, day 182 not till Friday. No big red banners (I watched the screen throughout). I live in a very under-vaccinated area.

2reefsin30knots · 23/11/2021 06:00

Was that at a centre linked to your GP @Gingerkittykat?

The place I went to asked me what my first jabs had been. I did give them my card with my vaccine stickers on, but they definitely didn't look at the dates. I could see the computer screen they were using. It was a blank form, not populated with any info about me. They asked me my name. No NHS number or anything.

I honestly think anybody could have walked in.

That's simply not correct. Or if it is your vaccine won't be recorded on your GP record or your app. Is it there?
2020isnotbehaving · 23/11/2021 09:14

There were sounds around how app only record first 2 as wasn’t set up for booster. No doubt someone be asking for serious money to enable an extra entry into data base. I mean should all be reasonable straight forward in theory.

Cookerhood · 23/11/2021 09:25

Boosters are entered on to the database, it's the fact that they don't distinguish between 3rd primaries & boosters. The boosters are now on the app as another QR code.

I'm in Scotland, it was at a vaccine centre. I didn't get given a vaccine card at any of my jabs so they obviously do it a bit differently here.

They must have a central record somewhere so they can send invites and guve you a vaccine passport.
