Does anything help with the headache?

I'm on about Day 3 of symptoms, positive LFT and still awaiting PCR results from yesterday. I'm a bit bunged up, slight fever yesterday, occasional cough and very tired - no worse than a normal cold, really - but I have a really nasty headache, to the point where it really hurts to cough and sneeze. I've been alternating paracetemol and ibuprofen but they've not touched it :( Has anyone found anything that's helped?

Ice pack on my head and as much sleep and fluids as possible. I also had some strong pain killers for an old injury so I took those. It lasted about 3/4 days

Thank you. We have some Naproxen here from an old back injury of DH's so I might give that a try after work (the joys of WFH and being self-employed - I have to work until the end of today at least and I'm not eligible for any sort of sickness/self-isolation pay :( ). I don't think I could bear an ice pack at the moment!

I feel your pain.. Literally. I've never had a headache as debilitating as this. Just moving makes my head hurt and I'm also really snotty so that's not helping. I've tried paracetamol, Nurofen express, Day /Night Nurse, a cold compress, but all to no avail. In fact, it's got worse through the day. I hope you get better soon 🌹

Co codamol might help with ibuprofen if you are ok with codeine. An anaesthetist at work used to swear by coke for headaches.

mrsbyers · 17/11/2021 17:40

I had Covid March 2020 and then a stroke that August - the stroke headache was nowhere near as bad as the Covid one so you have my sympathy ! Codeine took a bit of the edge off but mainly as it helped me to sleep

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 17/11/2021 17:43

Co codamol. I had the worst headache with covid. It was definitely my worse symptom

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/11/2021 17:44

Co codamol was the only thing that touched mine too.

I wore sunglasses inside for 4 days. Also found that sitting slack jawed was better than lying down.

Anothermuddywalk · 17/11/2021 19:03

My husband took Sudafed and found it really helped.

spiderlight · 17/11/2021 21:00

Thank you all. I tried one of my migraine tablets (Sumatriptan) and it's helped a lot. It didn't feel like a migraine, but my neck gradually started hurting like it does with my migraines so I thought it was worth a shot.

Did anyone else only have a fever in the evenings? This is such a weird virus 😖

I second co codamol. It was the only thing that worked

Motherdare · 17/11/2021 22:22

Call your GP and get a prescription for codeine and sumatriptan. They’ll send it to your chemist - can someone pick it up for you? DH had this paracetamol didn’t help at all. The codeine is really effective.

Cervicalflop · 17/11/2021 22:28

I had co- codamol lying about from a previous prescription so I used that, the pain from the covid headache was absolutely debilitating. I felt like I was being stabbed in the head repeatedly, and my nerves on the left side of my head and face were throbbing. At one point I couldn't open or close my left eye properly- I was sort of just left with my eye half open and twitchy.
Hope you recover soon it really is a ghastly illness.

Finknottlesnewt · 17/11/2021 22:33

I'm on Day 6 . The GP prescribed me the strong cocodamol 30/500. 2 of those every 4 hours for 2 days did the trick.
Now it's moved to my back but too tired to care .

Wavygravy1 · 11/07/2022 19:37

I’m at my wits end, sorry I know it’s an old thread. Been to the GP been prescribed 30/500 cocodamol. Took first lot half an hour ago. I hope this helps because I feel like I am going insane. It started Thursday night. Tested positive Friday, I’m actually negative now, so why is this headache so bad 😢

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 11/07/2022 19:40

Sleep and fluids when awake. It’s the only thing that has made me feel better - and we have a medicine cabinet that would make junkies embarrassed.
now if anyone can make the cough go away…

butterfly990 · 11/07/2022 20:02

My friend swears by pine needle tea for coughs.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 11/07/2022 20:03

Never heard of it - will give it a go! I sound like a flock of geese flying overhead.

AbsoluteShambles · 11/07/2022 20:06

Syndol is likely a goer. You’ll be snoozy though.

Get well soon!

Galvantula · 11/07/2022 20:09

I couldn't even coordinate myself to ask someone to get me some co codamol 😵 DH was still recovering so I couldn't send him 🤦

It subsided a bit on the 3rd day and I didn't have to take paracetamol so often, as it was bearable.

Still sore though including my face and teeth. Also pretty light headed and exhausted.
