Astra Covid jabs Pfizer booster

Anyone else a little nervous about getting Pfizer after having 2 Astra Zeneca jabs? I am. Due for booster in January 22 but nervous about the side effects of mixing the vaccines. I was quite poorly for a couple of days after my first AZ dose. Petrified my body will do the same fox Pfizer. Anyone else felt that way?

But I think you're meant to have a different booster, particularly if you've had AZ as the first one.

NotMyCat · 15/11/2021 16:54

I was fine. Unwell after AZ 1, fine after 2 and had Pfizer for 3rd jab with a flu jab in the other arm
My flu jab arm was more sore!

Iliketeaagain · 15/11/2021 16:54

I did it that way round. Had minimal side effects from Pfizer booster. With Astra Zeneca felt awful, but not with Pfizer booster.

NadiaVulvokov · 15/11/2021 16:54

I know what you mean. But since I read an article about the different types of immunity conferred by the different vaccines I feel the opposite to be honest. Now I’d feel more broadly protected if I got Pfizer booster. So that’s what I was hoping for.

Also AstraZeneca protection against hospitalisation drops off more quickly than Pfizer.

I'm 2 x AZ and will be having booster in December.
Here (Italy) there was a news report on Friday with one of the health service experts who said nobody should be getting an AZ booster, and everyone who had AZ initially will get either Pfizer or Moderna, whichever the vax point has on the day. Here in my area, there was a run on Pfizer earlier this autumn but they seem to have a stockpile of moderna at the moment as that seems to be what everyone I know is getting.

I had 2 AZ then Pfizer for booster and flu jab this weekend. Had no side effects of AZ, this time I felt rough for around 24hrs, like when your body is fighting something and your sore all over. I woke up today feeling fine. Little swollen in arm and sore muscle but worth it.

claymodels · 15/11/2021 17:08

We have all had AZ x 2 then Pfizer. That is Nanna in her 90s - parents & DH 60s - me 40s

Nobody has had a reaction. The booster was weeks ago now. Don't worry.

Talayla47 · 15/11/2021 17:12

Ok reassuring.

Wish Pfizer was available to me the first time round.

Had 2 x AZ - poorly for nearly a week with the first.
Had Pfizer booster last week, and did feel rough for 2-3 days, but no where near as bad as first time. I'm sure it's better than having covid anyway!

Timescale · 15/11/2021 17:19

Had two AZs. I was ill after the first and ok after the second. The Pfizer booster was similar to the first AZ for me - I felt like I’d been hit with a cricket bat the next morning. It cleared quickly - though my period arrived a week early and is still going which isnt normal for me at all. Hopefully it’ll stop soon!

Bakingdiva · 15/11/2021 17:25

I had 2 AZ then Pfizer booster and flu jab at the same time. I had 2 sore arms for a couple of days (flu jab was worst) and that was it.

Whataday21 · 15/11/2021 17:29

Yes I'm not looking forward to having a new vaccine, but I realise that is anxiety talking. You can't have any more AZ due to the type of vaccine it is. I did read about it at the time, but have forgotten all the science now.

toolazytothinkofausername · 15/11/2021 17:31

V1 AZ: Felt awful.
V2 AZ: Slight headache.
Booster Pfizer: Felt tired the next day.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/11/2021 17:34

I'm not a well person but like a pp had my Pfizer booster with a flu jab on the same day. AZ for my first two.
I did feel rubbish the next day but slept it off and was fine the next day.

Satsunday · 15/11/2021 17:34

I had a temp and body aches after the first AZ and felt poorly for two days. Manageable though.

Nothing after the second AZ.

Nothing after Pfizer booster (maybe a very mild headache but I get those anyway so not sure). Actually I did have a sore arm after Pfizer but it really didn't bother me much. Just slept on the other side.

DH had no side effects after any of the three.

WhatHaveIFound · 15/11/2021 17:36

I had mine at the weekend (Pfizer after 2 x AZ) and only had a achy arm that day. Fine the following day and since too.

wonkylegs · 15/11/2021 17:38

@Talayla47
I had my 3rd jab (I get an extra one due to meds/health condition plus booster in another 6mths) 10days ago
I had AZ for 1 & 2 and Pfizer for 3
Had a bad 24hrs with jab 1 but no problems with 2 or 3 bar a sore arm for a few hours.

@Timescale please report this via the yellow card - woman's health is not being considered I feel when it comes to the vaccines.
Onegingerhead · 15/11/2021 17:45

I had Pfizer (first dose) after having COVID-19 in August this year.
Not sure if it was the reason, but while COVID was really mild (slight headache, sore throat and loss of smell for 5 days only) the jab properly floored me. 39C for two days, horrible sweats, arm so sore I couldn’t even move it.
Could be that my body was making shedloads of antibodies in response to the jab after having natural infection.

Nandiniti · 15/11/2021 17:48

I've only had one AZ jab, and I was a little bit unwell after it - manageable but felt poorly with fever, aches and the shakes for a day or so. I had been properly ill with full on covid 5 months prior to it though.

Now worried that having Pfizer as a second jab will wipe me out, but I need to get it done. I'm 6 months late!

Timescale · 15/11/2021 17:53

@reasysteady - thanks I have just made a report.

Glinsk · 15/11/2021 17:57

DS23 had two AZ after which he was fluey - aches and high temp for a day or so (not sure if I would class that as "quite poorly").
Had his pfizer booster yesterday and just a mildly sore arm.

Bobholll · 15/11/2021 18:05

I’d be thrilled to be getting a different vaccine OP! Studies show a great immune response from mixing vaccines. It’s actually preferable.

Anecdotally, everyone I know had far more side effects so from AZ than Pfizer. I’m 33 so pretty much my entire social circle got Pfizer with the worst thing reported being a mild headache & a bit groggy. My elder family got AZ & all felt grim after it!

mumsneedwine · 15/11/2021 18:19

Had booster yesterday. But if a sore arm and that's it. Same with both AZs. Feel v v grateful to have the extra jab - I'm a teacher.
