Dye running on lateral flow

Does anyone know why this would happen? 2 tests from same batch used on different people and one the dye has run so the back ground is pink? There's possibly a 2nd line but hard to tell

We had a negative within the time frame and then I left it out and it did this?

mrshodgeheg · 14/11/2021 18:22

When this happens on pregnancy tests it's usually because you've flooded the test. So I'm guessing too many drops in the sample window.

HelloKittySkittles · 14/11/2021 18:22

Moved rather than kept really flat? More than 2 drops squeezed onto the test?
I would get them to do another one.

Dyerun · 14/11/2021 18:23

This happened within the 30 minutes of doing it

When i used a nasal only LFT on throat and nose (didn't realise it was nasal only), they did this.

Also, using more than the 4 drops has caused the ink to run.

In our cases these were negative, despite the whole window going pink.

Dyerun · 14/11/2021 18:25

I'm going to try and do another but it's on a 3 year old so not the easiest thing! Other one is mine and I did both tests in the same way. I've never seen this before

And DC does have a cold and vomiting

Sweetandsaltycaroline · 14/11/2021 18:29

Its happened to me a couple of times. I did take a pcr to clarify one (negative)

Dyerun · 14/11/2021 18:30

This nasal only and I used 3 drops. Going to try and repeat, just feel sorry for DC

Follow the instructions - the old ones were 2 drops, our recent ones are 4 drops.

FenceSplinters · 14/11/2021 19:13

That happens on mine sometimes. I’ve never thought anything of it.

Gingerbreadstar · 14/11/2021 19:14

If your DC has symptoms they need a PCR.

Dyerun · 14/11/2021 19:24

The retest was negative 😊 I was following the instructions and I only questioned it as it looked like there was a second line but hard to tell because of the dye run. Thanks for the replies everyone

It’s important to do a PCR as the symptoms you’ve described sound like covid
My friends daughter tested negative on three LF’s and positive on the PCR

Dyerun · 15/11/2021 08:07

I've ordered a home PCR just to be on the safe side, it's arriving today. Very quick service!

I had a similar thing happen to me last week. My pcr was negative. Not sure why it did that as I didn’t do anything differently to normal!

@Amaretto21
I definitely would have said the 2nd one looks positive. Glad your PCR came back negative!
