Pcr still not back

Sent a postal pcr off wednesday and it's still not back yet. Dd testing strong positive with symptoms. School have been really good about it but I've read some cases where people are testing positive on lft and negative on pcr and I'd be very worried sending her to school if that's the case but I've been testing ds since and he's now testing positive but not as strong so he's done a pcr aswell so what are the chances the pcr will come back negative if dd is having such strong positives and symptoms? Also has anyone's postal pcr taken this long to come through? I just want confirmation so I can let the school know. Thanks

My dh and I are Covid positive atm. Daughter had a positive LFT so we sent her pcr off on Wednesday. Still no results. She's got a temperature and aches now so I'm thinking it's definitely going to be positive. I'm impatient to know to let school know

Tilly28 · 13/11/2021 12:08

Id tell school about the positive LFT and the symptoms being strong as then they can at least let the class know it's likely.

Vanillacupcake33 · 13/11/2021 12:18

@blissfulllife I'm impatient too! I'd be very shocked if dd comes back negative given her symptoms and strong positives. Ds is still very faint they don't seem to be getting nay darker so not sure what's going on there. Any other times we've done pcr they have come back within 24-48 hours. If they do come back negative I will ring the school for advice I'm sure they won't want her I school like that with positive lft.

You can chase on 119 after 72 hours, they will look into it.

FabricedeSauveterre · 13/11/2021 12:38

Did you remember to register it before you sent it off?

NellieBertram · 13/11/2021 12:40

The lfts are pretty accurate so the positive means she has covid.

If the pcr is negative it’s much more likely that the pcr is a false negative than the lft is a false positive.

Vanillacupcake33 · 13/11/2021 12:58

I've doubled checked I registered it and it says I have and I did screenshot it so I had proof. I will jase them up tomorrow I think because then it would be past the 72 hour mark. I just wanted it this weekend to send off to the school as that's what they've asked for but it's out of my hands and I think they'll understand.
Yes I think I'll definitely go by the flow test if pcr is negative and just keep them off anyway I wouldn't feel comfortable sending them school at all.

I called after 3 days and They were helpful. My test hadn't been registered properly at the centre. Worth giving a call to check.
Ds just had a test Thursday morning results back Friday afternoon.

covetingthepreciousthings · 13/11/2021 13:12

Sent back a home test on a Monday, no results by Thursday, called and they looked into it and said unfortunately it looked like it had got lost and to do another. The results came thru about an hour or so after the phone call so it did seem to trigger something in the system, so I'd definitely give them a call.

Vanillacupcake33 · 13/11/2021 17:25

I've just rang them they said they are backlogged with tests and people ringing in. Apparently they will ring the lab in which will ring me within 73 hours!!! Hopefully I would have the results by then. There's no results that can be seen yet but as dd has had a positive lft to continue to self isolate and treat as covid.

We are still waiting for postal test results from Wednesday lunchtime too! I phoned 119 but they couldn't find results on the system. They've escalated it but sounded like might not get anything back. Told to wait 3 more days(!) but that we could get another PCR in the meantime as still within right timeframe (after getting symptoms). DC already tested positive and we all got positive lateral flows since and felt ill so we are pretty sure we all have it.

Vanillacupcake33 · 13/11/2021 17:50

Yes I'd say ypu have it too if your testing positive with symptoms. It's such a nightmare waiting. They never mentioned another pcr test with me but when dd did hers she really struggled and don't want to put her through that again. I only sent ds off yesterday so I'm hoping I haven't got to wait even longer for his too. If we got another pcr if be scared that wouldn't come back either. Apparently they've had alot of phonecalls in different areas about delayed results.

Still no results here so it looks like I'll be ringing the school to explain tomorrow 🙄

Our schools have been begging people not to do postal tests for this very reason, they just take far too long. But we are very lucky in that there are two testing centres within five miles of the centre of town.

Vanillacupcake33 · 14/11/2021 08:48

I did the postal before and it came back really quick i was expecting the same this time around but my dd won't go to a test centre she is very very shy around people she doesn't know and I know she would break down in tears and not do the test and her school knew this and were ok with it as alot of people in my dd age group have been using the postal service. Something must be going on for the track and trace to tell me they have had so many parents ringing in for results. I know think she's past the time frame for another pcr as her syntons started 5 days ago and that's also when she got a positive lft and I'm sure I read somewhere that the pcr needs to be done within 2 days of positive lft or else you just need to isolate...I think that's what it said.
