Confusing lfts flowflex issue?

Phatsia · 11/11/2021 10:26

Hi all, my DS (12) keeps testing positive on the flowflex tests, this has been ongoing and we've had 2 negative pcrs in the last month. Yesterday we had another clear but pale positive. All other household members tests are negative so Im awaiting a pcr for ds. I'm starting to think there is a definite issue with this particular brand of tests! Old fashioned nose and throat tests look negative. Place your bets on the PCR test.
What should I do regarding routine weekly testing if its a negative pcr test? I want to do my part but cant keep isolating and having pcrs all the time! Ive ran out of old style tests, dont know if anyone is still receiving that style anymore.

Many Thanks

Are you supervising him doing them?

Eightandahalfyears · 11/11/2021 10:29

Stop doing them.

Phatsia · 11/11/2021 10:29

I'm swabbing and doing the test myself, so no orange juice fakery lol

This is becoming the tempting option. Just go for a pcr if actually poorly I guess.

I've never had a problem. Son got a positive and then a positive PCR. I've had a zillion negatives since on the LFTs and negative PCRs.

Morrisons and other collectible places are still dishing out the old style tests here. Maybe that's an option.

gamerchick · 11/11/2021 10:32

I'm saying old style like it was years ago. Weird couple of years man.

Phatsia · 11/11/2021 10:34

I'd attach an image of test but have literally no clue how to. Ive joined mumsnet this morning.

Got given two boxes of 'old style' LFT tests last week.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/11/2021 11:17

When me and partner were positive on PCR, we had positive LFTs on both old style and new style tests.

Phatsia · 11/11/2021 13:02

Got hold of old style test and it was negative, so god knows. Find out when the pcr comes back I guess. Im guessing negative!

I’m counting have to squint to see them pale lines on flow flex as negative as we routinely get them too. If I had symptoms I’d do a pcr but otherwise on the lateral flow and looking for a clear positive.

Haffiana · 11/11/2021 15:28

Yes, there have been several threads here with some people testing positive every single time for weeks, particularly with the new tests.

There are just so many reports just on this board that I am sure that there will be something in the news about it in the next few weeks. It seems to happen to certain people.

One suggestion was to not do the test early in the morning?

Phatsia · 11/11/2021 20:11

Pcr just came back negative. Flowflex tests are not being used again in this house!!!

I agree that sometime very soon, we'll have news stories about this particular problem. Never had an issue before with the old ones. Whatever I do, my son tests positive on flowflex. No other household members do, so there must be some undocumented cross reactivity with something!

Is the line definitely appearing within the 30 minute period that you’re supposed to read the test?

CiderWithLizzie · 13/11/2021 00:14

Same problem for dd - she first tested positive on a flowflex 3 weeks ago but negative on old style lateral flow and PCR. She also had tonsillitis at the time. Still positive tonight on flowflex 😨

Confusing lfts flowflex issue?
CiderWithLizzie · 13/11/2021 00:16

DD’s line was within the 15 minute deadline.

Phatsia · 13/11/2021 10:38

Yeah, came up almost immediately, exactly the same kind of line as the pic above!

I have covid (confirmed by pcr) and only test positive on flowflex tests. Never had a positive on the old style. These were done at the same time.

It's 15 minutes on the flowflex ones.
Iggly · 13/11/2021 11:59

Yeah, came up almost immediately, exactly the same kind of line as the pic above!
We had similar. Two positives (same day same batch) so we had dd take two PCRs over the course of a few days, both negative.

She had a slight sore throat for a couple of days and a cough, then she was fine. All the rest of us were fine, so we went with the PCR.

This is with the new style tests. I don’t trust them anymore.

DD started using this new flow flex kits in mid Oct, no symptoms but saw a faint line so she did a test on old kits, it's negative, very confusing, she did a PCR to confirm it, PCR also came back negative. All household members (including unvaccinated DS) are tested negative using old or new test kits. Since then all test she did showed a faint line. School distributed another brand of test kits in early November, the all tests showed no faint line. But this week the school distributed Flow Flex again and the faint line came back. Still see no media report on Flow Flex, strange. Hmm

SkyeLouise1 · 16/12/2021 10:34

I’ve had the same issue with flowflex, I had 3 positive results over 3 days which came up instantly. Old style Flow tests were negative and pcr performed on the first day was also negative! Everyone else in the household is fine. I had covid just over 3 months ago so wondering if it could be related?
