When is someone infectious

Say if someone's partner just tested postive for covid and that person was at your house five days ago (not the partner) then tests postive do I need to take a test?

I think it is 48 hours before symptoms, although of course not everyone is symptomatic.

I think it's if you've had contact with someone In the 48 hours before their symptoms started. Of course some people test positive without symptoms though so it's harder to pinpoint. I wouldn't say it's necessary to take a test in your case but if you wanted to do one, you can I guess. You don't have to isolate for results with no symptoms if you are a close contact.

Thanks for the info. Friend has now tested postive so not sure if it could've been passed on or not the guidance changes so much! I'm pretty sure before it says the incubation period is upto two weeks !

I went on the tube on Saturday night where I'm sure I caught it (it was packed with no one wearing masks). I met a friend and went to the cinema (he didn't travel by tube).
Got first symptom on Wednesday. The friend I was with on Saturday has not tested positive.

You're most infectious in the 48 hours before symptoms start and in the 5 days after.

Incubation period isn't the same as infectious period. When contact tracing they look at the 48 hours before symptoms start
