To be annoyed about DH’s cold

birdy765 · 08/11/2021 10:43

This is completely irrational I know, but I just need to rant.

I’ve currently Covid positive (thankfully with very mild symptoms) and am halfway through the isolation period.

I was consoling myself that DH at least was well and could look after the DC, meaning they would have a chance of escaping the virus.

However, DH has somehow now come down with a stinking cold (not Covid) and has gone up to bed, so childcare has all fallen back on me.

Whilst my symptoms are milder than DH’s, Covid is obviously far more of an unknown in terms of long term effects. I’d rather the kids caught a heavy cold than Covid basically!

I know it’s not DH’s fault but the timing couldn’t be worse! Sad

Are you sure it isn't covid? Seems a bit of a coincidence. When did he do his pcr test?

SickAndTiredAgain · 08/11/2021 10:46

Seems a bit unlikely he doesn’t have covid if you do, and has caught a bad cold instead.

birdy765 · 08/11/2021 10:48

He’s doing lateral flows every day and got his PCR results this morning. He doesn’t have any Covid symptoms or loss of taste/smell (like I do) - just a nasty cold.

It’s inevitable the kids will get it now isn’t it. I’m on day 6 - am I less contagious now that I was or is there still a high chance I could give it to them?

I would suggest that he does another pcr, if he has developed symptoms since taking it. All of my ltf tests were negative when I had covid, and my first pcr was inconclusive. Lots of people don't have any of the official covid symptoms- delta typically presents as a bad cold. I wouldn't assume that he hasn't got it just yet.

Hope you both feel better soon.

birdy765 · 08/11/2021 10:53

We will order another PCR to be sure.

When I got it my LFTs were very strong - I got a T line within about 10 seconds! Whereas DH’s have been consistently negative and now the PCR is too.

My covid symptoms started as a cold. Took from the Saturday til the Tuesday for me to test positive. My DP came down with a cold on the Monday and took til the Thursday to test positive so please do not assume that his is just a cold. Likelihood is that his will be covid, just takes longer than you think to actually show up on tests. My dp was doing lfts twice daily and in the morning was negative and by the evening was positive.

No, not inevitable - household transmission is common but there are plenty of people who seem to escape it. You are probably less contagious now but you could still pass it on, which is why the isolation period is 10 days.
HopelesslyHopeful87 · 08/11/2021 10:54

And my dp never got any of the actual symptoms they list. And my loss of taste and smell didn't come til I was at day 8 or 9.

AlexaShutUp · 08/11/2021 10:54

Yes, I didn't lose taste/smell till around day 6.

birdy765 · 08/11/2021 10:56

If he doesn’t have Covid and is unable to look after the DC, I’m annoyed that I have to now put them in harms way by doing way more of the childcare. Like I said it’s no one’s fault but the timing is very unlucky.

I lost my taste and smell on day two! Funny how it’s so different for everybody.

Is he really so unwell with a cold that he can't help at all? Can't he just power through?

PurpleDaisies · 08/11/2021 11:48

It’s a bit surprising he has a cold so bad that he can’t get out of bed at the same time you’ve got Covid. I agree with another pcr. The first could have been too soon.

birdy765 · 08/11/2021 11:49

@PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck I know - I think that’s what has annoyed me. I know I’m less ill than him right now but I still think Covid is more of a danger to the kids than a cold?!

OP posts:
birdy765 · 08/11/2021 11:50

We’ve ordered another PCR which will arrive tomorrow with results on Wednesday (all being well).

PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck · 08/11/2021 11:51

He's either got covid and is feeling genuinely really unwell. Or he's got a cold and is being a wimp. Sorry! I think another PCR, get him to go drive through or something today, results tomorrow. If no covid, get his arse out of bed to help you.

birdy765 · 08/11/2021 11:53

Or he’s got a cold that genuinely is making him feel quite ill I suppose. The timing of it all is just so unfortunate with the kids.

I will update when we have his results.

I think that then depends on what he’s like with illness.
My DH has a terrible history for ignoring all illnesses and “powering through” to the extent that he once passed out walking to work - I think he had flu. If he told me he literally couldn’t get out of bed, I’d believe him and I’d actually be quite concerned.
If your DH has a tendency to take to his bed with the slightest sniffle, I’d be less sympathetic.

tiredoftiers · 08/11/2021 12:23

Covid positive here, cold symptoms without a cough for maybe 4/5 days before a positive LFT then PCR positive. My son also tested positive for it too.
None of the 3 covid symptoms until 4 days after my PCR when I've noticed I can't smell environmental smells, but can smell something up close..... Probably been there for days but just assumed it was because of my runny/blocked nose.

HSHorror · 08/11/2021 14:31

When did he last go out as incubation of cold/flu is generally shorter than covid.

Its likely he has covid. 1/10 pcr are positive. Plus hes in contact. (Pcr are only 80% accurate.)
