Are you getting the booster if you’re not vulnerable?

Just curious. Are you?

I am able to receive a booster. I am early 30’s with no health conditions that I am aware of.

I feel like the push for the boosters for healthy folk isn’t really there; in fact I am seeing more and more professionals say it’s unnecessary at this stage. Of course, safety is my main concern and much like before the first two, I am feeling somewhat anxious about it.

I don’t think it’s even offered to that demographic at this time is it? I won’t be over 6 months for a good while yet so it’s not something I’ve thought about yet.

I guess in a few months once they’ve worked through the priority groups there will be more data on whether it is necessary etc.

AnyFucker · 08/11/2021 09:18

You must work for the NHS or caring professions if you are not in a vulnerable group, so yes,

Goneback2school · 08/11/2021 09:20

Yes, I work in health care and will take it when offered.

Whathefisgoingon · 08/11/2021 09:21

No, I do not work in a healthcare setting.

No and I am vulnerable. I don't take my flu jag either. I am double vaccinated because I was desperate for the world to open up but I felt forced.into it.so won't be taking booster.

Whathefisgoingon · 08/11/2021 09:23

@Mantlemoose may I ask why? I’ve had my flu jab.

TabithaTumbler · 08/11/2021 09:23

The professor behind the AstraZeneca vaccine Professor Sarah Gilbert has said most people won't need a booster, so no I don't think it's necessary.

Timescale · 08/11/2021 09:23

To be offered a booster you must be either in the more categories or work/care for those categories.

SickAndTiredAgain · 08/11/2021 09:25

Depends, why have you been offered it if not vulnerable or working in healthcare?

TabithaTumbler · 08/11/2021 09:26

@Mantlemoose

No and I am vulnerable. I don't take my flu jag either. I am double vaccinated because I was desperate for the world to open up but I felt forced.into it.so won't be taking booster.

I think a lot of people feel like this now, they've played their part, got double jabbed but this seems to be never ending now. They keep moving the goalposts.

Whathefisgoingon · 08/11/2021 09:27

I was one of the people added to the extended shielding list as a highly precautionary measure due to a condition I “may have had.” I have been checked and do not have the condition, but once you are on the vaccination list, you cannot be removed. As such, I have been offered a booster.

As I had my vaccine early on in the year compared to my age group, I am considering having the booster; but I am also nervous.

AnyFucker · 08/11/2021 09:31

It’s up to you but I would be having the booster

Babdoc · 08/11/2021 09:31

Mantlemoose if you are clinically vulnerable and refusing a flu jab, you are playing Russian roulette. Why do you not want to protect yourself from a potentially fatal condition with a simple and safe immunisation?

Whathefisgoingon · 08/11/2021 09:31

I should add that I am considered high risk for developing said condition, so I could at any point and not know about it.

I'm late 40s and not in a healthcare profession so unfortunately I cannot have a booster, but if I could I would.

I know so many parents of secondary age children (like me and about a decade younger too) who've gotten really, really, really ill with Delta recently after their kids brought it home for very prolonged periods of time (months). All of whom are double jabbed. If a vaccine could spare me that experience, I'd take it. So I don't miss weeks of work (and maybe lose my job) and also just so I'm not horrendously ill for weeks or months.

I think it depends on your exposure levels though. If I didn't have kids in covid plague schools as they are at the moment, and could control my exposure more, then maybe not.

PurpleDaisies · 08/11/2021 09:33

It’s your decision. Having had Covid after being double jabbed, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’d be taking the booster.

Whathefisgoingon · 08/11/2021 09:37

Thanks all. I work in a covid denying office with people regularly coming in with covid symptoms, I also have a toddler who cannot be vaccinated yet so I do feel this is the best I can do to offer some protection to my child too. I know they are low risk but still...

Yes. I'm social care so mines booked in few weeks. At work we all got ours together so all due in next few weeks. In last 2 weeks most people have now had covid. I'm the minority. Immunity defo waning in my work place, it wouldnt be fair to not get it.

Mythroatisstillsore · 08/11/2021 10:29

Yes would have it immediately. Had my booster last Wednesday and so grateful for it.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 08/11/2021 10:39

I had mine yesterday. I'm 43.

I got my first lots early as I was having chemo and radio.

Now I'm all fine, I feel a bit of a fraud. But it's been over 6 months and I got told to book one.

Lottie4 · 08/11/2021 10:54

Already had mine, DH has his booked for Wednesday. My friends and their DHs are all apparently booking today.

LyricalBlowToTheJaw · 08/11/2021 11:09

No objection to having it if I'm offered, but am group 10 and nowhere near 6 months yet.

baroqueandblue · 08/11/2021 11:58

I won't be having it for the time being, although I'm eligible. I agree with @Mantlemoose, but in my case, in addition, I've never been as ill as I have been since last April when I had my first shot. The health service appear too hamstrung to be of any help, and I won't risk further damage to my fragile health in the name of 'protection'.

StillMedusa · 08/11/2021 12:10

I'm over 50, work in special ed, and had mine on Saturday.. (pfizer) (original ones were AZ)
Felt dreadful..assumed it was the booster. Nope. Tested positive for Covid today... along with three colleagues and one child in class (so far)

I feel lousy...

ParmigianoReggiano · 08/11/2021 12:13

Yes, I'll have it (not yet eligible).
