How do you do the swab test?

Hello,

I'm going to the UK from my home in Italy and have to do a Covid test on day two in the UK. I've only ever had two Covid tests in here, one was the antibody blood test and the other was using a swab ( or tampone as it's called in Italian) both were done by a Dr. They put the swab up my nose and then pushed it down into the back of my throat. As far as I know all tests are done like this by medics or pharmacists here, but If anyone is on here from Italy and can confirm this I'd be grateful as I need one to fly out too!

I've heard that this process is completely different in the UK and everyone tests themselves? Does this mean that when I go for my two day test, I need to do it myself? I've also read about people putting the swab in their mouth, something I haven't heard of here. So, how do you do it? I'm really worried that if I have to do it myself I might do it wrong and get the wrong result! I'll be doing it at Manchester airport, so any tips welcome.

Also, does anyone know what a PCR test in called here in Italy? I can only find the following listed:

test molecolare.
test rapido antigenico.
test sierologico.

Thanks!
