What concerns you more about getting Covid: the illness itself or the need to quarantine for 10 days?

Interested to know whether I'm an outlier... Having had Covid in the house previously and not being infected myself, thinking about it, I'm more concerned about the prospect of 10 days self-isolation than the illness.

Not long had it, and test and trace pestering me was the worst bit.

FindingMeno · 06/11/2021 08:21

But, in answer, quarantine.

KurtWilde · 06/11/2021 08:23

@FindingMeno

Yeah I second this actually. It was close to harassment imo.
NotMyCat · 06/11/2021 08:25

Illness because CEV. Already shielded for months on end and still avoiding social events so 10 days doesn't bother me

LubaLuca · 06/11/2021 08:25

Illness. I have congenital heart disease, so I imagine there'd be a bit of fuss if I caught it.

10 days isolation wouldn't be a problem, unless it coincided with an event.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/11/2021 08:26

Quarantine. I do a lot of exercise. I've got covid now and have extremely achey legs. What they need is a decent walk, but obviously not.

WinterFirTree · 06/11/2021 08:30

Illness. I have chronic asthma, as do both my DCs and my older DC has a range of immune issues. We all have colds here (testing negative for covid) and I thought I would have to go to hospital earlier this week as I simply could not breathe. If a cold does that to me (and it does, pretty much every time) i am fearful of covid. I am also desperately worried for my eldest who is the typical 'underlying conditions' (asthma, allergies, as yet not properly diagnosed some sort of immune issue which is being investigated). It frightens me.

Littlebelina · 06/11/2021 08:30

Quarantine (as low risk plus double jabbed) but this largely due to having a toddler who doesn't cope with Quarantine. If had older or no kids it might change my answer as don't really want to catch if it is likely to be mild for me

QueenofKattegat · 06/11/2021 08:44

Quarantine and being off work not getting paid.

FindingMeno · 06/11/2021 08:46

@KurtWilde it made me almost want to go out to escape them. I didn't mind quarantining but dreaded the phone calls which were preventing resting properly!

Backofbeyond50 · 06/11/2021 08:46

@ArcheryAnnie yes far to easy to underestimate it. My immediate family gave so far avoided it but I definitely want to avoid it if I can especially as DH and I are due boosters soon but no contact yet.

Backofbeyond50 · 06/11/2021 08:47

@ArcheryAnnie hope things improve for you too.

bumbleymummy · 06/11/2021 08:48

Quarantine

I felt the same. I actually blocked one of the numbers as at one point the calls were almost hourly. I wasn't massively poorly but I wasn't well either - and I had DC with mild covid to look after too. The last thing I needed was harassing by test and trace!

ChalfontPark · 06/11/2021 08:58

Managing the quarantine in a small house with one bathroom and three other people who have very demanding work / school lives and really can't afford to get sick.
Plus I am the only driver in the house and I do 99% of the cooking so it would be difficult for the others to manage ten days without me playing an active role in family life.

CrunchyCarrot · 06/11/2021 09:00

Neither. Have been housebound for 12 years and have already had Covid so not worried about either.

AlexaShutUp · 06/11/2021 09:01

Illness and long covid.

I can wfh so quarantine wasn't a big deal for us really. 10 days is not that long and you can speak to people on the phone, zoom etc. Shopping can be done online. I understand that it must be a worry for people who will lose out financially, though.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 06/11/2021 09:03

Quarantine and having to deal with the lengthy pointless scripted calls from test and trace.

EileenGC · 06/11/2021 09:04

Quarantine. If I can’t go to work I don’t get paid, if I lose out on work opportunities with specific people, I might never be called back. I work abroad once or twice a month so it would probably clash with one of those too.

Not a fun prospect due to being freelance and recently out of training which means I need to be proactively looking for work at all times.

The being stuck inside doesn’t put me off much to be honest, I’d probably love the first 5 days and then hate the rest, but it’s something I’d cope with. If I had something taking my mind off work, that is.

ANameChangeAgain · 06/11/2021 09:05

Quarantine. Already been there. We were vaccinated so not particularly ill, but the 10 day quarantine cost us thousands, not to mention dcs crucial school time missed.

Angel2702 · 06/11/2021 09:07

For DH who is vulnerable the illness itself. But most of the concern is having to quarantine. It is so stressful never being able to book anything in advance or plan things never knowing if you’ll have to miss it. We lost hundreds of pounds over half term due to having to cancel everything. Have missed out on fireworks tickets as left it too late to book due to not wanting to lose more money. Even the kids are working out what’s the last date they can have covid to avoid cancelling Christmas plans.

Angel2702 · 06/11/2021 09:08

They only called us once on a very bad line took very few details and don’t hear again.

fitflopqueen · 06/11/2021 09:13

Illness

Novemberchild2 · 06/11/2021 09:30

Both.

Mindymomo · 06/11/2021 09:48

Illness for me and all my family.
