Swine flu and covid

Has anyone had swine flu ? Would you say it's as bad as covid? I had swine flu when when it was about and I was so ill and in hospital I was hallucinating in the hospital and slept for 3 days I only remember sitting in the waiting area in hospital not knowing what was wrong with me but had the worst back pain it's a pain I can't describe. I have asthma to. So at the time thought it was a chest infection although my breathing was fine my back was not. After being in the waiting room I can't remember nothing untill my mum came and visited me in full PPE I was isolated to a side room with my own bathroom. It was so weird they did a nose swab on me when I was awake and a couple of days later when I was feeling better they sent me home with tamiflu tablets.

Sorry to go on. Just wanted to no if anyone has had both x

We have had both! Personally swine flu was much worse! In bed for days, infections afterwards, took months to get over! Covid just 24 hours! Big difference was we could see a Dr for help with swine flu! Covid our Dr wasn't interested! I know this isn't the case for everyone but this was our experience! X

Had both. Swine flu landed me in bed for a week or so, had tamiflu and had post viral fatigue. Covid was a whole other beast - I thought I would die.

The thing is with viruses is they can be very personal to how you get it. I had an awful case of swine flu never been so ill in my life and covid wasnt nowhere near as bad. DH had similar cases in both - 2-3 days of feeling unwell

DD had swine flu when she was little and it was the illest I've ever seen her. Really horrible, and it went on for ages. Neither DH nor I got it though. DD was much less sick with covid but had received her first jab before she got it. I also caught it from her despite being double jabbed, and I felt pretty lousy but it could have been worse. DH didn't get covid either.

Covid wasn't as bad as swine flu, but I am double jabbed. Swine flu I was breastfeeding and so ill I couldn't even hold DD- dh had to bring her to me and I fed lying down.

Covid for me is more glandular fever like. Nasty but not as bad as swine flu.

Had both and for me swine flu was a walk in the park compared to covid - which landed me in hospital twice (covid pneumonia then pulmonary embolism) despite being double jabbed. I was also heavily pregnant when I had swine flu.

I was very ill with swine flu, felt horrendous for a good 2 weeks. It totally took me down.
With covid I had a sore throat and felt a bit tired.
The illest I've ever been was after my second covid jab, think I had a bad reaction but I genuinely thought I was dying, it was scary

swine flu was unusual in that the younger generations were more severely affected than older people whereas Covid is more typical in that the older you are the more serious its likely to be. Either way there's definitely a genetic component which explains why some people become so ill with covid and others brush it off easily...south asian people for eg. are more likely to have a particular "faulty" gene that affects how lung cells react to the virus which means they are more likely to become seriously ill. (16% of white europeans have this "faulty" gene versus over 60% of SE Asians).

Porcupineintherough · 08/11/2021 17:05

I'm not sure you can compare. I thought the only people who knew they had actual swine flu were actually pretty ill. I dont think they tested much for milder cases.
