Three faint positive LFTS but negative PCR!

Stumped. Teacher so have done scores of LFTS and never had so much as the faintest shadow on them. Since Wednesday evening I’ve had 3 faint lines but my PCR just came back as negative. What would you do?

Do you have any symptoms?

Phyllis321 · 05/11/2021 08:30

Very tired, slept most of yesterday and had a bad head yesterday (not now). DH also had a faint positive and slept most of yesterday which is unheard of - he’s also got a negative PCR!

Book another PCR probably. You don’t mention pressure to go into work so are you on half term currently?

In addition to whether you have any symptoms (not just the three) and whether you’ve been exposed to a positive case in last ten days. (Quite possibly, if you teach, depending on half term dates)

JanglyBeads · 05/11/2021 08:32

*consider whether you’ve

newnameagain99 · 05/11/2021 08:33

Well our school advice is to stay home if negative pcr after positive lfd, but have symptoms. I'd do another pcr

Phyllis321 · 05/11/2021 08:35

It’s not half term. My school are very sensible and supportive with COVID so they won’t pressure me. I want to get back ASAP though, if only be at setting cover is a nightmare.
Just really confused - THREE faint positives?!

Yes, I guess I’ll book another PCR.

We've just been through this with my DD9.
She was under the weather and produced a clear positive LFT last Saturday. Took her for a PCR which came back negative on Sunday.
Did another LFT on her on the Sunday as she was still mildly under the weather and that one was negative at reading-time, but showed a positive line a few hours later.
119 advised me to go with the PCR result as did NHS / gov online.
I decided to do another PCR to be on the safe side and that was negative too, so she's gone back to school etc.

It's so hard to know what to do.

I've had this too, although I've now had five positive LFTs. My PCR was negative. I've taken millions of LFTs and never had a positive until now. However, the tests I have now (nose only) are a different brand to the ones before (nose and throat), so I wonder if it's to do with that. Three days after the first positive LFT I've come down with a cold. I've done a second PCR and am now waiting for the result. If that's negative I guess I'll have to assume I'm negative, unless I get classic symptoms. I would get a second PCR.

96% of positive LFTs are backed up with positive PCRs.

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

96% of positive LFTs are backed up with positive PCRs.
What's the point in this comment?
DerTrotzkopf · 05/11/2021 10:27

I suppose what they are saying is that if you've had several positive lfts and starting to feel tired with a headache, chances are you have covid despite a negative pcr.
