Super cold twice?! Or is my PCR wrong?

Dandy008 · 02/11/2021 21:44

Beginning of September I had what I thought was Covid.

Awful cough, low grade temp, snotty, achy.

I had a PCR which was negative so I figured it was the “super cold”

It took me two weeks to get over it.

At the weekend I started with a mega sore throat, snotty, achy and then a tickly cough, coughing up phlegm.

I’ve done LFTs and also went for a PCR.

Both negative.

So have I really just got another cold?! So soon??

My DC is in nursery and has been full of cold too.

I feel miserable :(

Yep, same here. Another lurgy.

Dandy008 · 02/11/2021 21:46

@KnightonShiningArmour

It’s awful isn’t it.

We've all had a horrible fluey cold here, I'm hoping DS 14's OK for his Covid jab tomorrow. He said he felt very sick earlier.

Dandy008 · 02/11/2021 21:53

@TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons

I’ve had a bit of an upset tummy with this too.

I hardly ever used to get colds. I can’t believe I have another one so soon.

I'm so sorry to read this. Are you all helping your bodies through whatever you have/some viral infection.

I usually take a lot of supplements every day. I take a range of supplements every day for general health.

When I feel cold symptoms, I throw everything I can at it

  • drink plenty of fluids
  • paracetamol
  • vitamin c
  • honey
  • garlic
  • ginger
  • eating well focusing on nutrient dense foods and less carb foods like pizzas.

Apparently zinc is supposed to be good too.

I came down with cold symptoms at the weekend. Tested negative on pcr. I'm doing all of that above and drinking calpol. I also find coconut water is good. A heat pad is good too. I throw everything I can at colds.

This is what lockdowns, school closures, far less social interaction & working from home has done to our immune systems.

I say this as someone who supported & stuck to all the restrictions (and would do again if they came back). However the fall out is that we are all picking up the usual winter bugs that we should have had contact with over the last 18 months.

Hope you feel better soon.

BlondieD · 02/11/2021 22:15

Sorry my post doesn't answer your question. I used to suffer from a lot of colds that led to sinus infections.

I would add a high dose of vitamin D to your daily supplements. Essential during the winter months for your immune system.
Dandy008 · 02/11/2021 22:18

I already take a multivitamin. Should I add more
to what I already take?

I take loads of supplements, just for myself and general health. My list

  • iron and vitamin c before breakfast. Then a wait a while. About an hour sometimes longer at weekends for breakfast.
  • after breakfast I take a cod liver oil capsule and a bone supplement containing vitamin D, calcium, k2.
  • at points during the day I take other supplements.
  • at night time I take a magnesium supplement and then I take a probiotic.

I like taking supplements and I find them to be beneficial for me. I do notice a difference.

I probably over do it on supplements and it's hard to keep up with them all the time.

I’d want to have daily negative LFDs before I’d be sure it wasn’t Covid?

I thought I had the world's worst cold last week - daily negative LFTs and a negative PCR. My DD was positive, so I carried on testing and finally got a positive on LFT and PCR on day six of being ill. I'm wondering now if the super cold going around is actually covid that is delayed in showing up on the tests?

With a child in nursery I'd say another cold is to be expected, not a surprise at all - I've had two since August and constantly feel like I'm coming down with something. Currently have a sore throat which I've thrown everything at, and have stocked up on ALL the vitamins. We've also had three separate stomach bugs in the house. It's delightful.

Dandy008 · 03/11/2021 05:52

@SnarkyBag

Umm why??

We have all been ill since end of September here as soon as cold goes it seems to come back a few days later or something else crops up. Had several PCR tests and the only positive on our house was my daughter who had no illness whatsoever. My son has had the super cold since start of October as soon as the cough goes and he goes back to school it comes back again and he is sent home. It’s so frustrating as we are not often ill. Kids usually have 100 per cent or very near attendance.

Bobholll · 03/11/2021 07:14

Pretty standard with a child in nursery. My immune system is dreadful despite taking an array of vitamins, eating a shed load of fruit & veg, home cooked, varied meals & exercising regularly 🙈

I recon I catch about 80% of my kids colds 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bobholll · 03/11/2021 07:14

Feel better soon!

Wandamakesporridge · 03/11/2021 09:32

Yes I am on my second mega cold and this one is worse than the last one. Negative LFTs and PCR. I have a horrible cough that sounds like I smoke 20 a day.

Currently off work, up to now I’ve had hardly any absences Sad
