PCR- Household isolation

This has probably been asked multiple times, I do apologise.

If someone in your household is getting a PCR does the whole household need to isolate while awaiting results? We are in Scotland. All I can find online is exemptions of isolation if you are a positive contact.

Thanks

not sure about Scotland but down south the answer would be no, only the person who is awaiting result has to isolate.

I had this discussion with the online chat covid helpline thing this morning…
You only need to isolate once you have been contacted by trace and protect, according to the person who I was messaging you are also not eligible for a covid test until they contact you.

Hope everyone is okay!

Yes, in Scotland you all isolate while waiting for PCR test results. If the person is positive then the rest of you PCR test too and a negative PCR releases you from isolation if you are double vaccinated or under 18.

It’s very important that you stay at home (self-isolate) if:

  • you have symptoms that may be caused by coronavirus (COVID-19)
  • you’ve had a positive test result
  • someone you live with has symptoms but has not yet been tested or received their test result

Thank you all for the advice. It seems as DH has symptoms the DC and I also isolate until results are back. I kept them off school this morning as a precaution but then wondered if I had interpreted the guidelines incorrectly.
