Self isolation. 10 or 11 days?

DS started with cold like symptoms on Monday. As he'd been in contact with a few children who have now tested positive I took him for a test.
PCR result has come back. Positive.
I'm really confused about the isolation though. I thought it was 10 days from the onset of symptoms. His symptoms started on Monday so ten days would mean his last day would be Wednesday.
But the email says "this includes the day your symptoms started and the next 10 full days" which would mean his last day of isolation would be next Thursday? Which is 11 days.....
Do you still get a call from test and trace who can advise?

I would like to know the answer to this too

Yes you are right. 11 days really. My dc symptoms started on a a Sunday. Test same day he gets out Thursday

Thanks @disappointed101
Was just confused as a couple of children at his football and school have had it and only isolated for 10 days as that's the general message you're given. But if it's 11 then it's 11. He'll be gutted at missing more football practice.

It's 10 full days, which in practise means 11 - the day your symptoms started / you tested positive, assuming this didn't happen as the clock turned midnight, doesn't could as a full day.

Donotgogentle · 27/10/2021 05:03

Didn’t you get told the last day of isolation with the positive PCR result?

As pp said, it’s the day symptoms start/you test positive plus 10 full days.

Donotgogentle · 27/10/2021 05:05

Sorry - I take that back. Just checked my notification and it didn’t specify the actual date.

CagneyNYPD1 · 27/10/2021 05:08

The day the symptoms started would be Day 0. The next day is day 1. With 10 full days of self isolation plus the first symptoms day, it can actually be 11 days. Or 10 and a bit.

@Donotgogentle phew thats a relief I thought I was missing something.

Yes it's day 0, then day 1.

Doomscrolling · 27/10/2021 06:25

Yes, Track and Trace said 10 days following the symptoms to us, so 11 days in all. It was a PITA as she missed a school trip we thought she could go in because we’d counted 10 days, but there you are.

QueenofLouisiana · 27/10/2021 06:27

The day you test positive is day 0. It is 10 full days after that. I had an email specifying it finished at 11.59 pm on 27th September. (Or whatever)

I think it’s so there’s no quibbling about shit like “I tested in the morning so would be fine by lunchtime on this date” etc.

Hothammock · 30/10/2021 08:21

If you have symptoms, it's the day you start symptoms and 10 days after regardless of when you test positive. For info it seems many people don't test positive until day 4 or 5 anyway.
If you do not have any symptoms and are positive, it's the day you tested and 10 days after that.
