Ds had a headache today

Don't read LFTs after an hour! I'd do another one.

Here is a photo of the test about 3 hrs after he took it

You are not supposed to read it after 30 minutes so just ignore. Do another if it makes you feel better but bin it after 30 mins.

Both mine and DH’s turned positive before the control line appeared. I’d re-do it, reading after 20 minutes.

Assuming it was negative at 30 mins (15? Those could be the new nasal only ones), do nothing now, and retest in the morning. Look at it after the prescribed time, and bin it. Although I have a near team who still thinks 6.30 is a lie in, so maybe it wont happen first thing tomorrow!
The reson I'm suggesting waiting until morning, is there is very little you can do at this time of night, and it will give the virus, if it is there, longer to establish itself.
Then I guess you need to make a decision based on the result and your mode of transport home.

That is a watermark from the ink coming down rather than a line. Tends to happen after a certain time hence not suppose to check after 30 mins.

Lines appear on positive pretty much straight away (at least on the 2 positive ones I have seen).

If concerned retake

Chuck it away 30 mins after you do the test

We don’t have another one with us but thanks for your advice.
None of the others we’ve taken has a line like this (though my dh sometimes gets a grey line at the positive area on lft.. but that’s another story)

I just fished the one I did hours earlier out of the bin and it’s still negative

Were they the new or the old ones. The old ones never did but I have noticed the new ones do - I wonder if the fact that the liquid is already in the thing you squeeze out means more goes on (the old ones sometimes was a struggle to get the liquid to move up to the control line) hence the dye moves more.

Can you still ask for some at the chemist? If so you could pick a few up tomorrow.

As others have said, the result isn’t valid after 30 (? I think) minutes. We had two positives (both backed up by positive PCRs) which went positive as the liquid moved up the strip as soon as the test was taken.
I’ve noticed, on a couple of the many, many LFTs that my family have taken this month, the watermark thing appear and gradually move down towards the T mark … I have now made my husband agree to throw them out after the 30 minutes are up as per the instructions to save me from having a heart attack when I come across a “positive” test 😆

I swear its the extra liquid. The lack of liquid was a real issue with the old ones and sometimes it was hard to get a line to appear. The new ones (which this definitely is) has far more and causes a water mark.

I'm going to go against the grain here as I think that is a positive result. Did you see it at all during the 15-30 min window? We've had quite a few ones where there's a very faint grey line but that one looks like my DD's positive test. You might be able to pick some up from a chemist tomorrow?

Also DD just had a headache to start with. Then had a blocked nose but no other symptoms.

Can you book a PCR test for tomorrow?

I'd do another test. You can pick them up from boots straight away if you collect, you can get a quick code online. Get some tomorrow and do another one

In the meantime I'd not isolate but if going in shops etc. Wear a mask. It's not a positive result after this time but Id want to retake

He has/had a sore head. I didn't realise the guidelines for testing had changed. When did this happen?
