PCR test after covid

I know that schools are advising not to do LFTs if you've had covid in the preceding 90 days. Is it the same with PCRs? I need a negative PCR for travel purposes and just wondering if they're affected by catching covid.

Yes its the same with PCR tests

Yes it is the same, unfortunately you can still test positive on PCRs. I did test negative a month after recovering from Covid.

there's a 90 day waiting period after covid during which they may test positive (even after previous negatives) on PCR and the advice is not to do them.

Oh no! So, this may interfere with travel plans Shock

@tdm1 I’m looking into this as dd has covid and we’re hoping to go to USA in November. There’s a mention of a dr note to confirm positive is outside contagious period. We’re planning to ask the airline and travel insurance company for advice. It’s very unclear online!

@NeedAHoliday2021 Please let me know whatever you find out! None of us has actually had covid, but having booked flights I'm now really worrying about this.

Whilst you can test positive for about 90 days don't forget that most people don't.

Infact most people no longer test positive after a couple of weeks. DD's friend caught Covid, which was picked up by her pre departure test. 12 days later she flew home with a negative PCR.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 26/10/2021 09:18

Half of DD1’s class have it, dd2’s best friend has it and dd3’s teacher. I don’t think we stood a chance avoiding it despite being really good at home. Went schools didn’t just keep masks is beyond me.

Went schools didn’t just keep masks is beyond me.

Because the government told them they weren't allowed to.
Because lots of parents didn't want their children to emerge then and actively encouraged them not to do so.
