Kids symptoms

My kids have been in close contact with a positive case. I've tried to do tests on the older one (3 years old) but she goes crazy and hates it so much I've given up. She was sick yesterday and has been so grumpy when she's normally very chilled so wondered if anyone had a positive test and the only symptom was being sick and really fussy. I don't want to send her to nursery to spread it about when she might have it but i really can't do the test on her, it's impossible: and also don't want to keep her off when it could just be coincidental, so just wanted to hear of anyone had anything similar and was positive

Anyone?

Could you try testing her while she is asleep?
My DD is older than yours but her initial symptoms were feeling a bit tired and achey. She was sick but I think that coincided with her running a temperature (a few days in)

Sickness is a common symptom in children especially for delta I think.

Remember you can do just up her nose, maybe whilst she’s asleep?

Piapiano · 24/10/2021 20:50

Have you got the new flowflex ones? You only have to swab inside nostrils so should be fairly straightforward even with a 3 year old. Bribery might help 😊

lifehappened · 24/10/2021 21:02

Ah thank you guys, I have tried the nose one but she just goes crazy. Trying when she sleeps is a great idea tho

Interesting to know sickness is a symptom, everyone keeps telling me it's not but I was sure I heard it could be

And yes bribery is also a good shout. I have lots of ice cream in 😃

DS14 coming out of isolation end of tomorrow. His started with headache, tiredness and nausea (spent the first day over the toilet). His cough developed a couple of days in.

sheeplikessleep · 24/10/2021 21:09

So hard with youngsters. Have you tried your daughter swabbing inside of your nose whilst you do hers?

Nothereforyourentertainment · 24/10/2021 21:13

I have used the sleeping method with my 2 year old. He typically wakes up but a small snack and a cuddle and goes straight back to bed again. Good luck!

Also though remember if your child is sick they have to be 48 hours clear before returning to school, nursery ect

snowone · 24/10/2021 21:13

DD7 has just come out of isolation, she had no symptoms until day 3, since then she has had a very slight cough. This was followed by differing symptoms all of which lasted less than 12 hours including sore throat, sore mouth, headache and tummy ache. She had non of the classic symptoms and If it hadn't have been for my dad testing positive I wouldn't have had her tested until about day 5.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 24/10/2021 21:14

My 5 year old started on Thursday night with croupy cough and his tonsils are very swollen. Didn't think anything of it. We kept him off school on Friday. Yesterday him, myself and my husband tested a very quick strong positive on lateral flow tests. First time we have ever tested. We have to wait to do and post PCRs tomorrow, our drive through was shut and no priority post till tomorrow afternoon.
