sanitising trolleys etc - just in Scotland?

Thanks to Nicola, Queen of Covid, we're still living with lots more restrictions here in Scotland to those of you in England. We have masks in indoor spaces, masks in schools, vaccine passports, lots of other things are still online and yet to open up - DS in his first year at Uni and has three in person classes from September - January.

Was in the supermarket earlier and people are still queuing up to pull off the wee squares on blue paper and squirt some stuff on the handles of their trolleys. I have always thought this was completely pointless and have never bothered, but it seems the shops here are unwilling to abandon it.

Are other places in the UK still doing this? What about places held up as paragons of Covid virtue like Spain/France/Germany - are all the shoppers there dutifully wiping their trolley handles?

I don't wipe down the handle, I just sanitise my hands after. I don't consider any of it 'theatre' just personal hygiene choices that's nobody else's business.

Covid aside, I think the supermarket trolleys and baskets could do with a hose down at the end the day anyway. Kids sitting in the trolley, fluid from meat, leaking cleaning products etc then you put your food in it. Yuk.

@Benjispruce4

Lucky you having a PM that wants to protect the people! Ours doesn’t give a shit! I still sanitise the trolley and wear a mask. I hope the trolley station stays regardless of Covid, people are filthy, pick their noses, don’t wash their hands after the loo! Yuk.
To be fair, the govt have given guidance to wear masks, sunrise hands etc. People have just decided not to. At some point people have to take responsibility for their own actions and consequences. The strictness of the actions in Scotland haven't really shown that much difference in the number of cases between England and Scotland. In Wales where masks are still mandatory as in Scotland, their cases are massive. So who knows what makes a difference in the end?

@Kevinishot

I’ve never done this & never will. I touch lift doors, taps, handles, handrails etc as do most people… when does it end? Covid theatre totally.
@2boysand1princess fomite transmission has been pretty much debunked
Thanks for the link. Had a quick read and I’m pretty sure the study says
“environmental contamination leading to SARS-CoV-2 transmission is unlikely to occur in real-life conditions, provided that standard cleaning procedures and precautions are enforced.”
It also says that the virus was tested for in hospitals AFTER standard procedure cleaning. Pretty sure the cleaning in hospitals especially in infectious disease wards is including sterilising techniques.
To me, it’s basically saying “cleaning using standard procedures” inactivates the virus on surfaces successfully. Which is what cleaning trolley handles is 🤷‍♀️

I like cleaning it so will continue to do so, not because of Covid but after a saw a child sneeze and two green candles shot out of their nose onto the handle and the mother made a half hearted attempt to wipe it off 🤢

I still do it, I'm in NI. I do the handles the side grips and the bit for my trolley pound. It takes seconds. I don't want any childs snot on my hands.
