Dd positive - test and trace

My primary age dd tested positive (result came through this morning). Me and DH both negative. I've had a text from test and trace saying I've been identified as a close contact so must isolate or get a PCR test, which I've obviously already done. DH hasn't been contacted at all.

I think they are trying to call me, but I can't hear them very clearly at all on the line!

What exactly do they contact you for? Do I have to tell them who dd has been in contact with? She's only been at school 2 days this week but I don't know who she mixes with apart from her two best friends who are also positive cases.

They'll want to know everywhere she's been in the last 2 weeks, apparently is data collection for the government. If you don't speak with them they will refer you to the local contact tracers and you'll get a call from a local number.

Their phone system is terrible! They rang every day when I was self-isolating due to testing positive. First call they went through how I thought I’d caught it. Follow up calls to check you’re still isolating and to ask how to are.

The callers were always very nice, but the phone line was always terrible and frequently dropped out. I’ve heard from friends that they had the same experience.

You’ll need to know if she has been near staff too. Have they sat next to her to help? Has she stood and chatted or shown them work? If younger, did she need help with coats of shoes?

Thanks everyone.

She's in year 3 but I honestly have no idea who she has contact with at school apart from immediate teaching staff and her friends. She's been to ballet class last weekend and swimming last week but that's it.

It's an 0300 number calling. It's so fuzzy when they speak that I can't tell what they are saying!

The last 2 weeks? I thought it was 48 hours. If I'd tested positive yesterday I wouldn't have a clue who I'd spoken to or everywhere I'd been in the last 2 weeks!

I can barely remember what I did two days ago! Grin

You can go online and give them the details. I got a text with a link. I still got phone calls from them but only to ensure I was planning on isolating. It took a while filling in the form online but I think it saved me a lot of time on the phone as I didn't get asked for any details about where I'd been or who I had had contact with.

I got a text for me with the details to make a test and trace account as I'd been identified as a contact, but had nothing for dd. I can't work out how to do it!

Is it really two weeks? I am waiting for my pcr results, I might have to start writing a list if it’s two weeks!

Djifunrsn · 22/10/2021 18:57

Just tell them she caught it at school and you don’t know who she could have been next to in assemblies etc. That’s what I told them when my dd was positive and they seemed to accept it.

dottyaboutstripes · 22/10/2021 18:58

It was the previous 4 days for ds, no way is it 2 weeks!

Newnormal99 · 22/10/2021 19:11

For me it was previous 2 days in detail. Checked I had told school.

They asked about last 7 days at high level to see where she might have picked up. I told them she was sitting next to 2 positive people at school so I was fairly sure it was there!

Littlemiss74 · 22/10/2021 19:16

My DS’s best friend had tested positive but we haven’t been contacted by T&T as a close contact. Is that what is mean to happen & is it down to the child’s parent to provide close contact details or the school? We’ve got him a pcr test anyway to be on the safe side..

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/10/2021 19:18

We got asked about the previous 48hrs in detail, although they were satisfied with just "school" rather than the ins and outs of who she sat with for how long.

Then the previous 7 days they just wanted to know where she'd been, in order to identify any possible transmission hotspots, but contacts not requested.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 22/10/2021 20:23

They contacted me re DD who is in Y2…. I only had one call with them which went into varying degrees of detail going back 2 weeks.

I told them which school she goes to but didn’t know who she’s been in close contact with. Told them I had notified the school and posted on the class Facebook and WhatsApp groups to let other parents know.

Anyone else they didn’t ask for contact details - they asked me to tell them which I said I would do (and I did).

They really didn’t seem particularly bothered about finding out who close contacts were.
