How many of you will comply?

LifesTooShortYOLO · 21/10/2021 10:34

I am interested to know if people will comply or not if they bring in Restrictions again about not mixing households, not seeing family or lockdowns etc again.
So many people I've spoken to are pretty much all of the same mindset of 'Fu#k that I'm not not seeing my family again, enough is enough and we have to get on with our lives now'
I also read this a lot on comments of articles where people are saying no they won't do it again and not see their loved ones or be told what to do over Christmas etc.

What are everyone's overall feelings as things stand right now?

Your prime minister and his friends don’t comply.. I don’t see why anyone listens to the rules they make when you know they just go against it.

bluejelly · 24/10/2021 13:12

Yes I do have children. Not sure why that's relevant?

And just for the record - I detest the PM. I take my guidance from the medical and scientific community.

I explained why relevant

What I’m prepared to suck up
Is very different for what i am prepared for my children to suck up

And there’s consensus? Because for everything you find online arguing one medical view. I will find the opposite.

There isn’t a medical community and its utterly naive to think otherwise

bluejelly · 24/10/2021 15:18

Let me rephrase then: the mainstream medical/scientific community, where there is broad consensus.
Of course there are always outliers with different opinions. It doesn't invalidate the majority.

Nope there isn’t remotely consensus amongst the “mainstream medical community”

In any event - what do you think this mainstream medical community is unanimous about?

Oftenithinkaboutit · 24/10/2021 16:51

What rules?

Oftenithinkaboutit · 24/10/2021 16:52

That link doesn’t talk about “rules”

Oftenithinkaboutit · 24/10/2021 16:53

Other than face mask wearing

So that’s the rule you’re referring to as being prepared to do?

Or additional ones?

What’s your definition of “mainstream”?
PurpleOkapi · 24/10/2021 18:12

Reminiscing on the past year and a half, I can't recall a single thing there was "consensus" about at the time that actually worked as promised. We've come an awful long way from "Two weeks to stop the spread!" and "Getting vaccinated protects everyone around you!" So I'm well past the point of trailing after the current scientific "consensus" every time the goalposts move yet again. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.

It’s no coincidence that those calling for manadatory masks @bluejelly for example
Almost universally argue their point using terms such as “mainstream” medical view and “medical and scientific community” .

There is no “medical and scientific community”
There is no “mainstream” medical view.

Pure fiction. And one constructed by those that seek out news reports that support their view / preference rather than actually exploring the issue before then making an informed decision but accepting that there will be medics and scientists that hold different views.

So Sunak is following the fiddling while Rome burns line. Disgraceful.

Vaccines

Social Distancing

That sort of thing.

Heard someone on radio the other day warning some cancer operations may need to be cancelled. Utter scaremongering.

orangespotatoes · 24/10/2021 20:24

Depending on the local rates that would inform if I would be more or less compliant. We wouldn't, for instance, go and see MIL and FIL (and probably won't for Christmas even if it is allowed) as they're both in poor health and I couldn't live with myself if we passed anything on.

We will continue to see friends outside, and have a select few to our house if restrictions were bought back.

Malteser71 · 25/10/2021 08:25

There’s consensus about the fact that Covid is now endemic.

Here to stay.

I’m interested to know whether people calling for reintroduction of ‘rules’ have an end point in mind.

For example, are they happy with living in a society where we wait and see whether this year’s Christmas ‘is allowed?’

And to what extent are they willing for large scale restriction to human rights in order to protect an underfunded public health system?

What next?

TheReluctantPhoenix · 25/10/2021 09:25

@Malteser71,

Restrictions were global, not just due to underfunded NHS.

If you get exponential growth for long enough, any health system is overwhelmed.

The reason we are talking about then again and most are not is that we have far more cases,

And that, in turn, is due to behaviour , not double vaxxing over 12s, and insufficient vaccine take up.

StupidPhones · 25/10/2021 10:03

I only hope some more people in the non vaccinated or half vaccinated categories decide to go get vaccinated. Althuohgh I'm not that hopeful as the families I know of seem entrenched in anti vax belief now.🤷

Maybe it will become a lovely Christmas tradition when we all switch on our TVs at 5pm a few days before Christmas to find out if we are allowed out of our houses or not.

Last year we got Tier 4ed and cancelled our plans which meant we had no food in for Christmas. I had a “friend” tell me that cheese on toast could become a lovely new family tradition for Christmas dinner.
