My sons lateral flow taken at 3pm clearly negative within 20 min window just now 5 hours later I've gone to bin it & I can see a faint positive, does this count as it's outside the window? Not sure what to do now!

Get him to do another one and read it within the time frame & see what it says.

Do another one but it's a good idea to bin them after 30 mins

It's not meant to be read several hours later. Do a new test.

I'd do a new test and wait the 30 minutes- the instructions on the ones we have say 30 minutes, and DD's only started to show positive between 20 and 30 mins.

It looks positive to me but then its after the time so echo what others have said. Do it again.

I’d go for a PCR to confirm either way

Just to confirm we went for a pcr and it's come back negative
