Positive PCR wrong?

Just curious as to whether anybody has had a positive PCR but it's actually false?

I tested positive 2 days ago however no symptoms as of yet and negative lfts everyone else in my household has negative PCR's obviously I'll continue to isolate and I'm not doubting the PCR test however it did get me thinking?! Hmm

I've had negative lateral flows for over a week, close contact so had a PCR and it's positive. I have no symptoms but I have absolutely no reason to doubt that I have COVID! PCR's will be correct. I'd say it's just the vaccines doing their job and keeping people from being unwell

@Nowmum43 thanks for replying!

Same here I was a close contact which prompted me to get a PCR so I have no doubt I do have covid and I'm glad the vaccine appears to be working! 🤞🏻

I had a positive PCR, which I didn't trust as I didn't feel unwell (apart from a sore throat) and had many negative lateral flows. PCR two days later gave a negative result. Test and trace today said that you shouldn't have another PCR for 90 days, as it may show false positive. He also said they weren't totally reliable. I am still isolating but feel like a fraud. I trust the negative PCR more than the positive as it is backed up by lateral flows.

Lots of people have positive PCR's with no symptoms. I'm not really sure about the LFT's being negative though but the PCR's are meant to be more accurate.

Not heard any issues with incorrect postive pcrs just negatives..

Thanks everyone, symptoms have started this morning I think, chest feels a little tight with the odd cough. It feels like the start of a cold. Here's to hoping it doesn't get any worse! Sad

Same happened to me. I was contacted by track and trace because apparently I was a contact of someone who tested positive. I did LFT straight away- negative. Then ordered pcr home kit- results positive. I was doing LFT every day- negative each time. No symptoms and my self isolation finishes tomorrow.
All my family had pcr 3 days after my pcr- all negative. They were doing LFTs too everyday and- all negative. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My partner had a positive PCR in August (they was getting it to travel, so no symptoms). Both did a LFT, negative. My PCR was negative. Six days later, we did another PCR each and both were negative.

They’re double vaccinated, but earlier this month they got covid proper and were unwell (bad flu level). Since if they’d had covid in August, plus the vax, they’d have been antibodied up and been fine, the only conclusion is the August PCR was a false positive.

I work in an NHS lab. Lateral flow are relatively accurate if you have a positive but if you get a negative reault it is only correct 50% of the time. I.e. false negatives on lateral flow are very very common. PCR is basically sequencing the virus DNA so the only way to get a false positive is if the sample has been contaminated at some point.

So glad I found this thread as I had the same question.
I tested positive on a PCR last Saturday. I only took it due to close contact.
I've taken numerous lateral flows since then and all negative and no symptoms. Husband also testing negative on numerous lateral flow and PCRs.
Obviously I'm isolating for 10 days anyway, but was wondering if the PCR could have been wrong.
I hope it isn't and I'm just very luck and am asymptomatic as I'm probably not due to get my booster vaccine for ages so it would be good to have some added protection through the winter.
I was thinking about doing another PCR just to see (will still isolate for the full 10 days) but am not sure if, should it come back positive, would it start the 10 day clock again on the app?
