Need help... positives on LFTs STILL!!

Hey so I just need some advice and to hear of anyone else this is happening too... so I work in a primary school part time.. I test twice a week on an LFT. Last Wednesday I had a faint positive so freaked out and did 4 more tests thinking I have a dodgy box! All were positive so I booked a PCR and got results on Friday.. as negative. I need to mention I had no obvious symptoms just felt a little run down and had some stomach cramps. After the negative PCR I decided to test again on the LFT and again positive!! So ordered a home PCR test... again Negative results on Sunday! So back to work I went yesterday as had that negative, decided just to check today with a LFT and it's still positive!! Aghhhhh is this just a thing now, is it picking my bloody air freshener up in the house?? I'm clutching at straws!! Has anyone else had this???

I want to add I've done about 12 tests in this time frame as I was freaking out 🙈🙈 not had one negative!

I hate to break this to you OP, as you are clearly determined that you don't have Covid, but you almost certainly do. PCR tests can apparently give false negatives, but LFTs hardly ever give false positives.

mamatro · 19/10/2021 10:33

I think because I feel fine as such I feel like it must be wrong 😑

You most likely have covid. Not sure why you’re in denial. Have you seen the news about the PCR tests? I’ve lost complete faith to be honest.

mamatro · 19/10/2021 10:36

Yeah I've been reading up, I'm the same I've lost all trust and just don't know what to do for the best.. even the help line couldn't give me any answers. My boss said once you get a negative PCR I'd advise not to do anymore tests!!!! I could be walking around infecting anyone 😭

All of my pcr for my family came up negative when we had glaring positives on the lft's. I redid the pcr via the post and they all came back positive.

We are in the sw where there seems to be a problem
With false negatives on pcrs,
If you are consistently testing positive on lft's op you have covid. Sorry.

zafferana · 19/10/2021 10:41

You don't feel fine - you feel run down and have stomach cramps. Covid manifests itself quite differently in different people and different age groups. You have symptoms and you've tested positive. What is there not to understand?

Tigerblue · 19/10/2021 10:44

Do work know the situation re: your covid tests? If not, it'd be really interesting to know what they think (and I'm not judging you if they don't already know the full extent of testing).

mamatro · 19/10/2021 10:45

Why are my PCRs not coming back as positives then? I've done a walk in centre and a home test.. I've ordered another home test now. Just seems strange so was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue that's all

Yes work know, when I told them I was waiting for a second PCR as I was still having positive LFTs they said once the PCR comes back as negative just don't test again as I may just be a person that gets positives! No help really!

I could of wrote this. Positive LFT on new tests , negative in old style tests and negative PCR x2.
No symptoms. Work have said due to negative PCR I have to go in, track and trace said I don't need to isolate ,completely baffled .

Iggly · 20/10/2021 07:39

I have to say, this is shaking my trust in PCRs.

SayWhaaat · 20/10/2021 08:03

Exactly the same here, waiting on 2nd pcr result as first one negative. Old LF tests negative, new LF tests positive. Have felt a bit fatigued the last few days which has made me doubt the negative pcr result but have had none of the expected covid symptoms.
If this pcr is negative I'm going to return to my life but will minimise indoor contact (which I might have done regardless given the current state of things).

Thirtyrock39 · 20/10/2021 08:37

Same has just happened to me. Have had a sore throat and mild cold started on Friday/ as no cough or temp did extra lateral flows - all negative till yesterday faint positive . 1/5 positive lateral flows and just had a negative pcr . I don't feel any worse than I did Friday and am triple jabbed . I also got test centre to do my test for me to make sure it was done properly but was very shocked the positive lateral flow didn't translate to w positive pcr (and very relieved)

ScarlettSunset · 20/10/2021 08:47

This all sounds rather concerning. I thought after that lab was stopped from processing PCR tests, this issue would stop occurring. It's a bit worrying to hear that it's still going on.
I hope that all of you who have been experiencing this get better quickly if you are experiencing symptoms

morethanbeingme · 20/10/2021 10:44

I am in the same boat. Yesterday, LFT positive followed by PCR negative. I have retested myself as having heavy cold and LFT is positive again.

SummerHouse · 20/10/2021 10:53

What we have to do is chuck all common sense out the window. Do what you think is right if you can and accept it if you can't (i.e. boss saying you must come in). It all defies logic. All of it! When to test, when to isolate, why we don't trust positive LFT when false positives are so rare, test and trace (who are on the phone for a very long time but don't actually ask who you were with). You go slowly insane trying to make sense of an insane process.

Wagsandclaws · 20/10/2021 10:54

Get a postal pcr, they will come back positive if you have positive lfts. Mine and my family's did,

Honestly non of it makes sense!

I've done one more postal and will go off that, it's all just very bizarre
OP posts:
Wagsandclaws · 20/10/2021 11:27

Yes it is, I thought they'd fixed the pcr problem by closing the Wolverhampton lab but it seems people are still testing positive on the lft's but not on the pcr's.

Good luck op, if you are having repeated positives on the lft's then you do have covid I'm afraid.

mamatro · 21/10/2021 20:03

So I did a third PCR and still negative... that's it now it's becoming a joke. God knows what my LFT has been picking up for the last week.
