Just here for a moan…

I really, like really, bloody miss tasting my food.

That’s is all.

Me too! I only lost my sense of taste on Friday & already miss it so much! How long has yours been gone for?

SeraphinaDombegh · 18/10/2021 18:11

I'm with you on that and it's only been two days for me so far Sad it's rubbish, isn't it? Eating loses all its joy when you can't taste it.

Yellow85 · 18/10/2021 18:18

Day 5 🤣 we had already meal planned for this week and have had wonderful dishes. Or so my DH says - from through the wall

Me too. I'm actually finding it quite depressing as I also feel tired and dizzy. Really hope this won't last. I'm on day 8 and never experienced anything like it re losing taste.

VioletBick · 18/10/2021 18:21

Same! It’s been 4 weeks for me and still no sign of my taste/smell returning. Really hope it doesn’t go on too much longer.

Same kind of thing here, plus a banging headache. I'm on day 5 of overall symptoms. It's very demoralising.
Yellow85 · 18/10/2021 18:29

I don’t know if it’s the expectation that it was going to be much worse, or perhaps I’m still in early stages, I feel crap but crap like a rubbish cold with a pressure headache added in. But manageable thus far.

Perhaps it’s because I don’t have a choice wfh with 2 kids and bloody homeschooling again!!!

I've lost my appetite - even water simultaneously doesn't take like it should, and tastes really off ...

Gettingonabitnow · 18/10/2021 22:30

I’m finding if I have something really strong like vinegar the acidity almost feels like taste 🤦‍♀️ So trying to think of the strongest foods I could try! FML!

TreeLawney · 18/10/2021 22:38

Yes! I miss it so much! Can’t even comfort eat my way out of the misery.

On the bright side, I’ve been trying to lose 2kg for the last month and it’s gone without thinking now I can’t taste anything.

Bimblesalong · 20/10/2021 15:49

Mine has just gone today, although I can still enjoy the textures. Appetite gone too.
I’ve been having the odd cuppa so the dreadful headache is not added to by caffeine withdrawal.
Gah.

Bamaluz · 20/10/2021 15:55

Mine went on Friday too.
I don't know about losing weight, I keep thinking I'll just try something else to see if I can taste it Smile

Wagsandclaws · 20/10/2021 15:59

I've lost half a stone in the last 9 days, tbh I could have done with it but I can't taste or smell anything and it's bloody miserable.

Sad to see this lasting for over 4 weeks for some of us, it's been less than a week and I've had enough already.

Yellow85 · 20/10/2021 16:02

Every morning I wake up in hope 🤣 it’s killing me as DH is dropping off some amazing looking food.

As soon as I’m out of isolation in getting a pizza, a decent coffee, an orange galaxy and an espresso martini.

The loss of smell is maybe even worse.

DH put some super cleaning stuff in our en-suite yesterday evening. I went up to bed.

A few minutes later he came racing up the stairs and opened all the windows really wide…apparently the chlorine smell was so strong he could smell it 2 flights down…I would have merrily died in my bed with no idea whatsoever!

I have to keep asking the dc if I smell 😭

Topseyt · 20/10/2021 16:35

A cold has done this to me, as they sometimes do anyway (just had the result of a PCR test, which is negative).

I hate it when this happens. Food tastes like cardboard and you never know whether it will take days or weeks to return to normal. The last time it affected me this badly was 18 years ago after surgery to remove my permanently infected tonsils. Then it took about 6 weeks, during which time food smelled wonderful but tasted horrendous. It was so frustrating.

Ah well, maybe it will help me lose some weight.

CyclesPerfecta · 20/10/2021 16:51

Only on day 5, but miss it so much! Made a spiced pumpkin and chorizo soup on Monday, my favorite autumn dish. Tasted to me like hot air. Used up the rest of the pumpkin to make a pumpkin cake today - with orange and mixed spice, usually smells delicious (autumn/ Christmassy smell), but again no joy for me to eat it... Hope this will clear before Christmas!

But on a plus side, there is no point to carbs snacking, the textures are so boring! Started eating a lot more fruit and veg now, at least to "enjoy" different textures :-)

MegaClutterSlut · 20/10/2021 16:58

2 and a half weeks since being infected I've got about 70% of my taste back, maybe 20% sense of smell. I'm more bothered by not being able to smell anything unless its right under my nose tbh and even then its only slight
