Spent yesterday, Sunday, in very close contact all afternoon indoors with a family member (A) at another family member's house. Hugging, cuddling etc, very affectionate family.
At dinner this family member gets a text from their partner (B) who is back home -not with us - and had just done a lateral flow test which is showing a strong positive (I saw it, red line as clear as the control line) as they had just discovered they couldn't taste their cup of tea.

A and B live together and A travelled down that morning. They had both done lat flow tests on Friday evening which were clear. B is feeling more unwell today, A has no symptoms yet.
A did a clear lat flow test after getting the text and we distanced after the call then they travelled home.

How likely am I to have caught it off A? I know no one can say for sure. What are the timescales?

B not sure where they got it but went to a live concert on Tuesday night and was in A & E on Friday.

Everyone is vaccinated.

Reading it back sounds like an affair! This is my sibling and I was with my wider family.

I would

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 18/10/2021 13:59

Sorry 4 year old climbing on me!

I would think it’s too soon for A to pass it to you.

Likelyhood is B became contagious Friday/Saturday. It then takes 3-7 days for someone else to become infected and be able to pass it on.

Arcadia · 18/10/2021 14:00

Thanks @Tigerwhocameforsupper I will be lat flowing and will PCR if 'A' becomes positive in next few days, but when would she have to have +PCR by for me to be at risk?

I've been in this situation when the rules were to isolate, so that's what we did but we tested daily on lft and had two PCRs within that time frame and we never caught it.

Fingers crossed you don't catch it op

SingingGoldfinch · 18/10/2021 14:34

A hasn't even tested positive. I would try and stop worrying about it. If A does become symptomatic and test positive in next day or so then I'd get a PCR.

Mammaaof · 18/10/2021 14:36

My mum tested positive on Saturday on lateral flow, confirmed on sun by PCR. I was with her all day in a car on the Friday, sharing drinks/food/sweets, I'm on day 15 and haven't tested positive, and none else in her house is positive either

Thanks @saltontoast but I don't think under the old regime I'd have to isolate yet? Though 'A' would.

@Mammaaof hope your Mum is okay

All the evidence is lateral flow tests are good at picking up people who are actually infectious, so you are probably ok.

Arcadia · 21/10/2021 11:29

Ok so sibling has now tested positive today, started feeling unwell Tuesday evening but was still doing negative lat flow tests til today.
Should I do a PCR or continue with lat flows?

If you do a PCR test tomorrow, that’s five days out so it will be reassuring if it’s negative.

Arcadia · 21/10/2021 17:21

Thanks @ThisIsTheEndMyFriend I'm going to do one tomorrow and one on day 7 🤞🏼

Good luck! Let us know!

Arcadia · 21/10/2021 18:35

@ThisIsTheEndMyFriend I will! I'm actually quite interested to see what happens now. I kind of want to get it over and done with now, and half term would be a relatively convenient time to have it (plus I'd be in the clear for Christmas!)

Well, don’t get your hopes up too much! I know what you mean though. I have relaxed since having it, although it was quite worrying at the time (pre-jab).

Firesidefox · 21/10/2021 18:47

I reckon you won't have caught it. Good luck OP

Arcadia · 21/10/2021 19:31

Thanks, it's nice that people are interested! I will update.

That’s good. It can be nasty (just to state the obvious). I’m sure you’ll be fine.
