Random cough - covid?

Dd 6 was randomly coughing throughout the day yesterday. Wouldn't call then coughing fits but random coughs. Sound chesty but loose if that's possible. She wouldn't cough for a few hours then a couple coughs and so on!

She does suffer from allergies that do make her cough at times so didn't think much of it yesterday. Her allergies were bad last October at this time. But after coughing throughout the night I'm going to ring the school and book a pcr test!

Has anyone's little ones had covid which had started with the cough but no other symptoms?

She's fine in herself. Not poorly at all - just a random cough!

My sons the same he's been coughing on and off over the weekend, he goes to a special school as he has severe autism and learning disabilities, and they have some very clinically extremely vulnerable children there, so i have ordered him a PCR, hes fine in himself too, this is the second time since September I have had to keep him off for a test 🙄

Colleagues and students have tested positive after having a cough. It is a covid symptom.

Not all coughs are covid, but the only way to find out is to test. It's better to test and know than to send a potentially covid positive child into a school.

Could you not do a lateral flow test, far quicker, and if it's negative, no need to wait for a PCR and no need to stay off school.

Lateral flow tests are for asymptomatic testing.
If someone has a new cough then they need a PCR test.

I used the lateral flows when my ds1 got poorly on Monday morning. Came back with a glaring bright red positive line. Same again for ds2 on Tuesday and me, dd and Dh.

Good job we used the lateral flows as all the pcr's we took came back negative ( we are part of the south west fiasco ) so we re took the pcr again at the end of the week and they of course all came back positive.

Please don't discount the use of the lateral flows as they are very fast and very accurate, even if you DO have symptoms.

Yes, but a LFT test would be a good starting point whilst waiting for a PCR test and result. If it came back positive, then at least you know that and can take precautions whilst waiting for the PCR for confirmation.

Yes, my ds had this. 2 LFT's were positive. Waiting on PCR.
