Three positive lateral flows then negative PCR

Anyone had this? Tested my six yr old Saturday, three out of four positive lat flows. PCR test done yesterday just came back negative. All down correctly (child is quite good about having it done). In my head PCR is the gold standard so it’s confusing.

We’ll keep the child off school today and when awake do another lat flow. If that’s positive again I guess there’s nothing to do but take him for another PCR.

I saw this has been in the news a bit. We’re not in the south west.

Sounds like covid to me...

Whichjab · 18/10/2021 06:46

If positive on LFTs they have covid.

ChimChimeny · 18/10/2021 06:50

It's been all.over the press that there's an issue but doesn't seem to be an explanation.

But yes they have covid

Where are you in the country OP? There have been thousands of positive PCRs incorrectly coming back as negative in the south west. Another testing site with problems was Wolverhampton. I’m not sure if these issues have been resolved, although my friend had this exact scenario a few days ago, then other family members tested positive days later.

Sorry, just noticed you’re not in south west Blush

Good morning, so I've tested positive on LFTs for a whole week! Done ten of them! Done two PCRs both negative!! I am now confused!!

Tabbypawpaw · 18/10/2021 07:37

Just to add to the confusion, his lateral flow this morning is negative. It’s from a new box, I’m wondering if the three we did on Saturday were a faulty batch? He does have a cough.

Try a postal PCR. We had the same issue and the postal one came back positive.

GrandmasCat · 18/10/2021 07:40

We had the same. DS and I had the same symptoms but mine were 3 days behind his. He got positive lateral flow tests plus a positive positive PCR, my two PCRs were negative. I assume my tests were done too early and too late for the test to indicate something.

Considering the latest news about so many false negative PCRs, the only responsible thing to do is to keep him at hone, not for an extra day, but for 10 days from the first positive result.

saltontoast · 18/10/2021 07:43

I've had positive LFTs in the past followed by negative PCRs since the beginning of the year.

I now have covid symptoms and negative lft waiting for PCR results

Tabbypawpaw · 18/10/2021 07:51

So what should I think about the negative lateral flow this morning? He’s about to go off to the testing centre again for another PCR.

Could it be he had Covid last week (no symptoms) the lateral flows caught the end of that on Saturday, but by Sunday (yesterday) when he had the PCR he was clear?

I did a walk in PCR then a postal one.. I'd say just test to be on the safe side.. I think now after I've had so many positive LFTs but yet negative PCR you just never know!!

rumncoke · 18/10/2021 16:55

Where about are you op? I’ve had this with my youngest. Positive lf Friday, negative pcr over weekend . Have sent off a home pcr now and kept him off. We are Norfolk .

MegaGengar · 18/10/2021 16:59

Do a postal PCR if possible - so many people have been pos LFT, neg on first PCR then pos on postal kit.

It's a massive mess and I would say if LFT positive with symptoms then they have COVID and need to isolate for 10 days. Some public health directors have come out and given this guidance too.

Tabbypawpaw · 18/10/2021 17:53

Thanks. Waiting on the second PCR done this morning. It’s such a palaver as if he truly is positive it affects half term plans. We’re south east.

Good luck. Hoping they sorted out all the pcr problems and it's not another error.

zaffa · 21/10/2021 13:31

Hi all, how did your tests come back?

I've been positive on LFT since last Monday but negative on three PCRs. Also South East. I've isolated for ten days anyway as I had symptoms but just a bit worried about why I'm testing negative on all the PCRs!
