Positive LFTs negative PCR

So I tested last Monday for work purposes on a LFT I got the faintest positive... that faint that no one else could see it haha! By Wednesday it had got darker but still faint! I did aPCR which was negative.. still tested positive up until today which has now barely visible again.. waiting on another PCR that I did yesterday.. what are peoples thoughts on this? I've probably done about 10 positive LFTs... not symptoms other than slight stomach cramps mid week.. slight nausea and slight fatigue? Strange how this has happened, I'm trying to think of anything else can cause these positives??? Help

Are you doing the lft correctly ie no eating or drinking for hslf an hour before testing, reading them at 30 min not later? If yes then congratulations Id guess you are recovering from a mild case of COVID.

mamatrow · 17/10/2021 21:03

Yes followed the instructions down to a T
Tested my whole family too.. as I thought I was having dodgy tests... they have all been negative!

This has been in the news a lot. Are you in the south west, by any chance?

I would treat the positive LFT as being Covid positive, you're very unlikely to get them otherwise.

It’s been in the news about a lab being shut down for incorrectly processing tests. If youve had a positive lft and negative pcr, you need to get another pcr. Track and trace will probably message you at some point to confirm that.

I'm south Oxfordshire! I've been reading and wondering this too! As I've not felt ill as such it's hard to get my head around that I may have covid!

Yes I've been reading about this.. I've done another PCR yesterday so hopefully I will hear soon

There have been lots of reports of faulty pcr tests. If you have multiple positive LTFs, regardless of how weak they are, I think you should probably assume it's covid. Especially as you have mild symptoms too.

So I've tested negative on a PCR for the second time.. no I have no faith in these tests!!

mamatro · 19/10/2021 09:56

Still testing positive on an LFT... super strange!!

Whatafrickennightmare · 20/10/2021 07:32

I have had the exact same , positive LFTs and negative PCRs have done two PCR both negative, old style LFT test negative. , New ones positive.
Spoke to the helpline have been told don't need to isolate. I am completely baffled and I have no symptoms either . It has put me off testing in the future due to the inaccuracies.

icedancerlenny · 20/10/2021 07:40

This was a known problem in south Oxfordshire, although not sure if it’s been resolved now. I would speak to t&t but I think you need to isolate!

Echo40 · 20/10/2021 07:53

I have seen few comments like this outside of the south west.

The lab in Wolverhampton that was shut down the same company runs other labs not sure if they still in operation.

False postives on lft quite rare.

I've spoken to T&T twice now and they were no help at all.. the second call I had which was yesterday read me a statement about everything that is going on.. saying they are looking into what is happening. That is it! No advice what to do other than follow a positive LFT up with a PCR and go from there... question is when do I stop testing. I don't have any old style tests to check on them. My whole family have been testing too and all of there tests have been negative except for mine! It's all very strange

OP, have you altered your username slightly? It’s no longer showing up with a green background.
