2nd PCR test

Hi,

To cut a long story short, my parents got positive covid tests last weekend and have been self isolating. I got a PCR a day later and was negative. Had a big row with work as they wanted me in the office but I was wary of risking my colleagues, who were extremely vocal about not coming in if I was there.

I'm due back on Wednesday when the 10 days for my parents run out, but to be on the safe side we all went to get another PCR as my colleague said she'd feel better knowing. We got the result back fast, one of my parents is negative and it now seems he may have to restart the 10 days?

I feel so upset and guilty about it, does he really have to isolate again? he's felt fine for over a week and has negative flow tests

If someone has tested positive they aren't supposed to do another PCr for 90 days as could still test positive. I presume a type in your OP, your dad doesn't have to isolate again

I didn't realise you weren't supposed to unfortunately.

Why would he isolate again after just having Covid and why take a test again so soon? Without sounding harsh he's now a statistic and on the daily count for new cases when he's not a new case, he's effectively been counted twice for the same bout of Covid. Behaviour like this has me wondering how accurate the figures are because nearly two years in and people are still not understanding how and when to test.

No, because it's not clear! I booked the tests easily, no warnings.

If your not positive then no the parent doesn't have to isolate at you shouldn't do a PCR or lft for 90 days after a positive PCR unless they develop new symptoms and usually quite a while after original infection.

If contacted just explain it was taken in error and that they already have finished isolation. This is on the NHS guidelines.

I hope he can explain it when they call, I feel awful.

He talked to someone this morning who said it was fine to just continue until Wednesday with self-iso.

The relief!
