No taste or smell 1 year later. Anyone had the same and found a cure?

My dp had covid over a year ago. He still has no smell or taste, apart from being able to smell onion & garlic . Has anyone had the same and tried anything that works to get it back?

Watched something few months ago (This Morning I think) there was an expert explaining how to retrain your sense of smell. If I remember correctly you had to smell the same smell several times a day, for example lavender.

I have no idea if it works but it's free and safe so worth a try!!

Smell training is worth trying, get 4 empty clean jars and put drops of essential oils in each (v cheap on eBay)
Clove, eucalyptus, rose and lemon.
You can also try asking the GP for a prescription for steroid nasal spray.

I think there is an NHS specialist clinic for this in London (one of the long COVID ones but specialising in taste/smell issues)

I only lost mine for 2 weeks so this maybe no use but when I was getting mine back I had to blow my nose so clear before every bite of food and drink and at first I could just get a very slight hint of something and day by day that increased. Also taking anything that could decogest me so things like hot lemon drinks, cold and flu tablets (obviously not long term), anti histamines (dont think they did much). I tried to smell strong things like flash with bleach, that came back first though some things were in a strange order indian food was very slow to come back. I also got a chemical type smell but that was start of it coming back. Hope he can get his smell back.
