Just that. Do I go with the negative pcr ? Try another? My DS is full of cold, headache , coughing and temperature. I’d go with the negative if it weren’t for the mess in Wolverhampton. It was a very faint line on lateral flow. He also had the horrid cold going round 3 weeks ago. I literally don’t know what to do !

I think I would retest tbh.

Jelly0naplate · 16/10/2021 17:20

I'd give it another day or so and test again. Hope he feels better soon

DaxtheDestroyer · 16/10/2021 17:39

Have you not been pinged to retest? Ive been contacted for all of our negative PCRs over the last 2 weeks and asked to retest.
Given he had a positive LFT, I'd do another PCR. Was it one of the new style nose-only flowflex tests? They have been found to be extremely reliable.

DaxtheDestroyer · 16/10/2021 17:39

Also the horrid cold 3 weeks ago may well have been covid!

zaffa · 16/10/2021 17:48

I'm in the SE and have had a positive LFT every day for the past six days, but tested negative at PCR earlier this week. I retested yesterday and I'm waiting for results now.
I arranged the second PCR before the news broke, because I knew something wasn't quite right with so many positive LFT (old and new ones).
I think you should retest. You have nothing to lose and could possibly stop the spread to others.

It was a new nose only lft . Have done another of those just now and negative , rang 119 and he said to def take as negative , I said I realky aren’t overly happy with that as it’s an utter shit show at mo and he’s sending a home test to test again . Honestly , what are people suppose to do . It’s a mess really isn’t !

We had this a few weeks ago ds came home feeling really off hight temp, nasty cough, aching and headache and 5 people in his class tested positive I did lft and had faintest of positives so booked a pcr for the next day and took another lft again positive. The pcr came back negative and he felt a bit better. The school insisted he went as the pcr was negative so off he went. 4 days later I'll again so I kept him off school and another lft was positive but again pcr negative. I told the school I really wasn't happy to send him because if the pcr is wrong he's possibly infecting people and they told me no he was to go in school. I really didn't know what to do and I knew the nasty cold was going around but this just seemed like more and since he'd been In contact with 5 cases I assumed it was that I didn't know what to do or think about it.

I’m SE and tutor pupils from a good few local schools. I’ve had so many the last few weeks doing online lessons due to a positive LFT who then go on to tell me they’ve had a negative PCR it’s insane. I really don’t know what to believe any more.

JanglyBeads · 16/10/2021 23:30

I can’t find it now but I’ve seen on Twitter tonight that the UKHSA has stated that some areas in SE (and Wales) have been affected by this problem. People within the infectious period will get a message asking them to retest.

This happened to me. Total of 5 positive lateral flow tests over a few days. Two negative PCRs. Feeling unwell but like a heavy cold, not the COVID symptoms. I spent a day or two convincing myself I was ok and went to work (after two positive LF tests and two negative PCRs). However, once I started to feel unwell, and had the third positive LF, I decided that I should stop going to work and isolate, as ultimately that was the responsible thing to do.

I have to say that I feel a bit dissatisfied with the whole thing. I now feel fine, after four days, but can’t return to work for another 6 days. Because I didn’t get the positive PCR, I have a niggling feeling that maybe I don’t have COVID, though I know that 5 LF tests would strongly suggest I do as a false positive is rare. I just feel unsettled by the uncertainty of whether or not I have it, but know that it would’ve been wrong to continue to go to work.

It is very unsettling isn’t it. I’ve got a home pcr arriving today so will retest . I’ve read false negative pcr s are more common than false positive lateral flows so who knows . He’s not going anywhere anyway, too unwell . Thanks for replying .

I’d just assume he’s positive and make your own decisions based on that. If you get a positive pcr you’ll have track and trace on the phone and from bitter experience you don’t want that. My dh tested positive and filled in the forms online. My dd tested positive on the same day and we were called by track and trace. Asked who we lived with. I said she lives with her dad, brother and me and her dad has tested positive and logged all relevant info and me and her brother have just returned from getting pcr. But no, I had to spend 40 mins on the phone to them to be told exactly what I’d just told them and that her dad should get a pcr (er I just told you he’s positive) and that me and her brother should get a pcr (er I just told you that we had done that). I wouldn’t get another pcr in a hurry!

It is a shame that this issue is arising. I now feel really uncertain about whether or not I do have COVID and really bad about missing work. I also feel like I have to justify myself when I say that my PCR was negative but all my LFs were positive. Tricky.

Hope it doesn’t turn out I’m actually negative and then catch it in a month or two and have to explain that to work 🤷‍♀️ All very unsettled by it.
