To retest or not to retest?

My DP tested positive on Wednesday I went for a PCR Thursday which came back negative on Friday morning ( I had a cough but other than that felt ok) Friday evening I started to feel really achy, sore throat, headache. Would you book another PCR or assume that Thursdays would have picked up the virus if I had it? LTR flow negative.

You could have been testing too soon
I'd maybe do another PCR

Probably too early to pick it up. Myself and extended family took pcr on the day/day after my DDs positive pcr. All negative. We've all since had another one and positive. My LFT was negative even when I had a cough and felt odd. Pcr was then positive though.

Yes I would test again today or tomorrow.

Husband went for pcr on Sunday, got positive test results back on Monday morning. I tested negative on pcr on Tuesday but got positive lateral flow on Thursday. Sent off postal pcr on Thursday which came back this morning and also positive

You’re supposed to test on day 2 and again on day 8 of your close contact’s illness.

DS and DH were neg day 2 and pos day 8 when I had it.

Those aren't the rules in Scotland or England afaik

We were negative the day after dd’s positive result.

All positive 5 days later.

Especially if you’re feeling unwell it’s definitely worth getting tested again.

Not in England unless you've just flown in!!

@thestarvingcaterpillar

You probably tested too soon. I'd test again, tomorrow & not go to work until the results came back. If it's negative ask work what they want you to do (if you travel by car). If you travel by PT I'd isolate & keep testing.

But legally (because our govt wants it to go through the population (idiots)) you don't have to isolate until you test positive IF you're double jabbed.

Remember you can get COVID from you DH at anytime, one negative test only means you didn't have it at that time, not that you didn't get it straight after.

Paddingtonthebear · 16/10/2021 10:33

There’s been no advice on what day to test where I am (England). Husband tested positive on Monday and the text and email I got from t&t just said I do not have to self isolate and I should (not must) get a pcr test even if I don’t have symptoms. That’s it.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2021 10:38

Think the day 8 testing is in Wales for close contacts

In Scotland you all isolate and PCR test and it's the PCR that releases double jabbed and under 18s from isolation

In England close contacts are advised to PCR test but don't have to and don't have to isolate while waiting for results

thestarvingcaterpillar · 16/10/2021 10:49

Thank you all, I've booked to go for another PCR this afternoon!
It's a crazy messed up system with so much room for people to be wandering around with covid after receiving negative results!
