LFT - line appearing later than 30 mins

DH is away and did an LFT this afternoon. At 30 mins "thought it looked a bit different" from the negative test of his travelling companion. When he lookedvat it again after about an hour, faint but definite line visible.

Hevhas just repeated, and no sign of a line this time. Anyone had experience of this, and how did it turn out in the end?

If it’s negative what’s the line on the T for?

Bigfathairyones · 15/10/2021 18:16

A line post 30 mins is a negative; instructions are very clear on that, as they can be false positives after that time. If he's worried, try another one.

Mymapuddlington · 15/10/2021 18:17

Me and ds have done a lot, all been negative, never had a line appear even the next day

24MilesfromWakefield · 15/10/2021 18:18

Oh, well hes been googling and he'd just eaten an apple and apple juice apparently can give a false positive. Anyway hes going to test again tomorrow and see if he can get a pcr....Still interested to hear experiences though

I would ask for a PCR to confirm.
It could very well be a weak positive. It could appear as a darker line if he testes later on, specially if he develops symptoms.

Thanks for replies, ill report back on his to third test...

Yes hes going to book a PCR

To try to be clearer, that garbled message was meant to say, photo was dh test after about 60 minutes, mine (and his repeat) both decisively negative

You're not meant to look at the result after 30 minutes. So he did the right thing and did another one.

Tatum1234 · 15/10/2021 18:55

My son’s LFT did this, I sent him to school as I thought it was negative. When I went to throw it away after the school run I noticed a faint line. His PCR that evening was positive.

Well another test today was negative again so we're leaning towards the aple juice theory... but thanks for all the replies

I did not know about apple juice! That is so weird! Whatever apple jice snd a virus have in common?
In the meantime he is feeling well, that is the most important thing!

Porcupineintherough · 16/10/2021 20:22

Weve had faint lines appear after an hour or so. Assumed they were evaporation lines, they've certainly not lead to sumptoms or a positive test.

24MilesfromWakefield · 16/10/2021 23:49

MushMonster apparently its something to do with the acidity. If you dip your swab in apple juice, apparently you are guaranteed a day off school....

And yes he's well, and his companion is serenely unbothered despite their age - 80!!

As a pp said, it clearly says in the instruction not to look at the test after 30 minutes as it can give false positives.

I always throw mine away at 30 minutes so avoiding any confusion.
