Positive on old style lateral flow but negative on newer nose only tests

My son has covid, confirmed by a pcr at the weekend. My other children and I now have symptoms although not the major 3. We did pcr tests tests earlier in the week which came back negative.

I have been doing lateral flow tests daily and this morning got a faint positive on an older style one where it says to swab both your throat and nose. I read it after the 30 minutes that the instructions said to, it was very faint but there was clearly a second line there. I took another to check and again got a faint second line. I then used one of the newer style ones where you swab both nostrils. This one, however, definitely just had the one control line so was negative.

I have booked an appointment for a pcr test but am wondering if it is that one style of test is more accurate than the other.

I think the new nose 1s are awful me an ds both tested positive on old lft we done about 3 each (I was really expecting negative results). Then negative on the nose one. Pcr confirmed positive redone older and newer lft out off curiosity and again old style positive just nose negative funnily enough my dd5 was the only 1 negative on all tests and she only done nose swabs for pcr an lft I really think throat is needed to be tested aswell.

My family currently have Covid. We’ve found the newer nose only LFTs picked it up first (pcr confirmed) old style nose and throat ones one-two days later 🤷‍♀️

It's so strange how it varies so much from person to person. I'm assuming my Pcr will confirm it as positive, but then again I've heard so many stories recently of false nagatives from pcr tests.

I've now had a negative result on the old style throat & nose lateral flows today. I'm so confused by all these test results. Why would I get two positive results yesterday (the lines were faint but they were definitely there) and now a negative lateral flow today. I had two pcrs earlier in the week (Saturday and Tuesday) that were negative. I haven't had yesterday's pcr results back yet.

For your own peace of mind stop doing lfts. They are telling you nothing. Just wait for the pcr results.

My Pcr result has come back this evening as positive.

I'm currently self-isolating with Covid which was tested for near the start of this week by PCR. (virtually no symptoms at time of testing, I was testing alongside a close contact family member.) A day after getting my positive PCR result I thought I'd try one of the 'new' LFTs, nose-only. Negative. Hmm I know there may be a shorter window to use these where they can actually be of some use, but I don't really think they're worth the waste of plastic, frankly.
