So many people out and about with colds and negative LFTs

So many people I know who are fully vaccinated have colds at the moment and insist they don't have covid, based on negative LFT. Yet whenever I come to this board, it seems that everyone follows the official advice and gets a PCR when they have colds and coughs.

Even at nursery, the kids can go in, if they have just coughs and colds and only need a PCR if they have a temperature too.

Is this anyone else's experience too in real life ?

Surely the LFT detects most cases if you actually test while you're symptomatic ?

I saw an article yesterday saying that they're better than first thought.

While writing I just received a text from my mum saying she doesn't have covid, even though she has a bad cough and cold, because she's just had a negative LFT..

Ds had 3 pcr (2 was as in hospital non covid releated t)and 3 lateral flow all negative s

He has asthma flare and chest infection but amount of looks get because is out (he is not ill in himself)

I refuse to test him.again this current bout of symptoms

My mum had a mild cold. Just sniffles. Negative lateral flows, positive pcr.
All colds aren’t covid that’s true, but considering we are in a country with such high covid cases, a cold is quite likely to be covid too. A pcr wouldn’t hurt.

There's a stinker of a chesty cold doing the rounds. It isn't Covid.

Well it was in our household.

wolfstarling · 16/10/2021 21:09

All my LFTs were negative but 2nd PCR was positive day 5.

I had a cough for two days before testing positive on both LFT and PCR. If I'd stopped testing after the first negative tests I would have spread Covid about to countless people. Repeat testing is worthwhile if you have symptoms

I'm a HCP and have a rotten cold. LFTs twice a week for work all negative so got a PCR which was also negative

So @wolfstarling is right, there is a stinker of a cold about which isn't Covid

Been rough for a week, terrible headache, sore throat, congested, nausea. Done an LFT every day since Monday..all negative. Did a PCR yesterday and results also negative.

Not in ours. Worst cold I’ve ever had. DH had to take some time off work for the first time in 8 years. PCR’s all negative.
