BBC

I wonder if anyone here who had negative PCRs after positive LFTs had their test there?

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 15/10/2021 07:33

Colour me shocked.

onanadventure · 15/10/2021 07:39

I had a negative on tuesday - but no symptoms.
also negative LFT's
I've got a postal one to make sure tho.

It's frustrating tho, as If I end up passing it onto family who are now visting (came after negative test confirmed) i''ll be really upset.

Imfedupwithallofthis · 15/10/2021 07:59

According to the Fail -
The false negatives were reportedly caused by one lab - rather than the site - and are now fixed.

'The DHSC has now confirmed that a number of sites nationally may have been affected by this issue, including the one at Newbury Showground.'

3asAbird · 15/10/2021 08:01

Why are the journalists not pressing for other affected areas.
Nationally I suspect this problem is maybe bigger than the south west then.

GoldChick · 15/10/2021 08:15

They need to be open here otherwise people will find it hard to trust the results again

Imfedupwithallofthis · 15/10/2021 08:21

@3asAbird

There is a full announcement expected later. Don't know which lab is affected, I hope we will hear more then.
How many labs are there across the country?
10? 100? 1000?

GoldChick · 15/10/2021 08:22

Hopefully just 1. Hopefully the announcement will happen before the media can whip up national panic.

No idea when Hancock was health he used to boast about many light house labs and covid testing boosts the economy.
I imagine they large and centralised by region.
Possibly Berkshire users same lab as south west as it borders Wiltshire so Marlborough/ Swindon/ Salisbury all that that far away.
Not sure about Wales as parts south Wales been reporting same issues.

Maybe explains the so called 'super cold'

It would be interesting to know if anywhere else - Europe, the US, etc has the 'worst cold ever'...?

I thought the people who had the super cold tested negative on both lft and pcrs The problem here is with negative pcrs following in some cases multiple lfts. I've read that other countries are expecting a bad winter for colds and flu too
Mrsorganmorgan · 15/10/2021 13:14

My grandson had this in Wales. Positive LFT and a Negative PCR. They told him that they had mixed up the days and he didn't have to isolate.

Tealightsandd · 15/10/2021 13:59

But do any of the other countries have issues with 'super colds' and flu now?

A couple of weeks back, before this news (the testing cock up) l wondered about the possibility of a new Covid strain, perhaps a mutation of Delta, that tests might be missing. I assume that's been ruled out?

EasterIssland · 15/10/2021 14:03

I don’t think Spain is currently going through super cold at the moment. The weather is not as cold as here tho.
Many of my friends kids tho are having hand foot and mouth.

Tealightsandd · 15/10/2021 14:16

Interesting. Wonder if it's a Delta mutation (or another new strain) poorly detected by tests.

Is the Spain super cold like here? Bad enough for many people to contact medical services (GPs and 111 have been inundated with patients suffering symptoms including breathing problems)?

Let's try to think of a possible silver cloud. The NHS is bracing for a possibly bad winter flu season. Hopefully this 'super cold' will have passed through by then, clearing up capacity?

Tealightsandd · 15/10/2021 14:17

Sorry misread! I read it that they were going through a super cold too.

So much for multi tasking. I need to get back to work!

I heard a scientist say that if the virus mutates so much that it can't be detected by a PCR test then it isn't covid 19 any more which does seem to make perfect sense.

I think that this will be either some kind of failure to do the tests properly or machine breakdown or maybe not even doing them at all and logging as negative. I'd put money on cock up any day rather than anything to do with the virus

What is shocking is the length of time it's taken to realise that there was a problem as I remember reading threads on here a good couple of weeks ago at least
