Anti vax AND anti testing!

My DD8's dad is an anti vaxxer and is also very against covid tests - says they're cancer causing. He says he's going to get something formally in place to stop me doing lateral flow tests on her (I've only done 1 and he was furious). Can he actually do this?

He's a wanker and I'm not sure but I don't think he would have a leg to stand on with regards to something formally in place .

frozendaisy · 14/10/2021 18:09

No he can't do this.

Dingdongdo87 · 14/10/2021 18:10

He's already managed to block the flu vaccination so I'm not so sure. Rang the school behind my back and the doctor won't do it either

You need a lawyer then because he's a master manipulator as well as a wanker.

Dingdongdo87 · 14/10/2021 18:16

I thought as much. If his idea of getting something formal in place means a solicitor gets involved, surely no solicitor would entertain this??!

He can block a vaccination, both of you need to give consent unless you can get a court to overrule.

But whilst your child is with you you have parental responsibility so can LFT test your child should the need arise.

Or he can bring a case to court that proves LFT tests cause cancer. Which would be interesting if it happened.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 14/10/2021 18:29

Either don't tell him you're going to test or if your DD is sent home from school with symptoms and asked to PCR before returning to school, give him the option to either allow her to test or he takes off the 10 days she would be required to isolate from school if you declined to test, I guarantee his stance would change when his life would be inconvenienced by his decision

Get a court order to have his parental rights revoked, at best he is insane.

It's driving me mad having to deal with this. Plus I'm so worried his views will start to rub off on my daughter soon enough

When he pushes his point of view, you state your point of view while making it clear that she has a right to her own as well. That way, she's not caught in a tug-of-war between you. It's also more likely she'll see that your opinion is more rational and reasonable.
Sunshinegirl82 · 14/10/2021 19:47

I would honestly just speak to a solicitor, bite the bullet and apply for a court order yourself specifying that your DD should have all vaccines recommended by the NHS (including flu) because it's in her best interests. Otherwise you will have this every time something like this crops up.

About covid vaccination but useful nevertheless.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 14/10/2021 20:00

The only thing that touches your body when doing a Covid test is the cotton bud/swab bit. Unless he can provide scientific evidence supporting the assertion that the swab causes cancer surely there will be no way a judge would support n order to ban tests.

Buzzinwithbez · 14/10/2021 20:21

He's probably worried about residues of ethylene oxide which is used to sterilise them.

Dingdongdo87 · 14/10/2021 22:59

Yes Buzz, That's the issue. But the minimal amount going into your system is not going to cause cancer.

Tell him you are anti-fuckwit so he needs to leave the planet and fuck off to Planet Fuckwit. Or possibly go the solicitor route already suggested.

Disclaimer, not all people concerned about vaccines are fuckwits.
